Sidequests on most games are "worthless." For the most part they don't yield any great weapons, moves, or items, but they're usually fun and different from the main quests which is why most gamers like the option. Plus it extends the life of the game, so instead of beating it in 10 hours, one could spend up to 20-25 hours completing the game.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

While I was a bit disappointed at first, I still look back at that game very fondly because it gave me a very enjoyable game-playing experience. I'd rather have that special game that sticks in your mind long after playing it briefly than one that I "got my money's worth" from by slogging through hours upon hours of routine gameplay.

Re: IGN gives Jade Empire a............
I agree jmood, but I dunno, I was pulled in till about chapter 5 then it seemed rushed and brought me back to reality I guess. I mean the game tries to seem like it has an epic scope, but the biggest city in the game really isn't that big at all. It's just my opinion that's all, I'm glad others are enjoying it.Comment

Originally posted by taylor34That's only true in recent games. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 rewarded you a great deal for doing sidequests, as do games like fallout. Maybe it's because experience and your level actually meant something in those games, where in Jade Empire it was more about your hand eye coordination than actual character skills.

Originally posted by taylor34I only played on normal on baldur's gate 1 and 2 (which was the 2nd lowest out of the five difficulty levels), a game made by the SAME company, and experience made a huge difference. So having to play on the highest level just to have experience count for something would appear to be a pretty big flaw, wouldn't you say? In their last game, KOTOR, I played on normal and did a large number of side quests in order to get better since if I didn't I'd be in trouble in some of the bigger fights. Why should this game be different?

My two favorite RPG's on the cosole have been Morrowind and FFX. Both took me over 100 hours to complete. To me a great RPG should be like a thick novel. It should feel like a LONG journey where I get to know the characters. I really didn't get too attached to the characters in Jade. I think cuz we really didn't spend that much time together.

Re: IGN gives Jade Empire a............
Baulder's Gate was definitely a 100 hour plus game for me on the PC. The same with The Complete Ultima VII and Planescape Torment. The way I'm playing the game, Jade will probably end up being a 45 hours game. Most people will not agree, but I find it worthy of the lofty critical praise it has received.
As I said in a thread a couple of months back I expect Oblivion to be the greatest RPG of all time. The 24/7 dynamic life cycle of the NPC's(something I haven't seen since Utima VII) coupled with the insane graphics, and more involving fighting mechanism, should take the genre to a new level. It's may be a system seller(XBOX360) for me if my PC can't handle it.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Re: IGN gives Jade Empire a............
Don't want to start a new thread(but I will if you force me!), and this one has already wandered enough, so might as well add in another random question:
Knights of the Old Republic II or Jade Empire?
Simple as that, I'm a Star Wars fan but i would prefer the better game, even if it's Jade.Comment
