Of course, it'll propel him to pass me.
And to answer the thread question, I want a country.Comment

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Haight-Ashbury in the 60's.
New York in the 50s.
Chicago in the 20s
Atlanta in 1860s...Last edited by Fresh Tendrils; 04-24-2005, 08:20 PM.

Re: The next GTA: where do you want it?
The actually did a GTA: London back in the old-school, top-down days of GTA. It was set in the 1960s I believe, actually, I still have the game sitting right here...1969.
I think GTA set in a city like Tokyo or Hong Kong could be interesting. Either that, or they could do a straight sequel to GTA 3, bringing all of the improvments of San Andreas and Vice City along with. Hey, maybe they would actually let the main character speak this time around!Comment

Seriously though, I think the music is a determining factor on what time period GTA will take place. In my mind, this eliminates anything before the 60's as a realistic time period. I just can't picture a soundtrack of 50's music. For the next GTA I could see it being either current time or something in the 60's/70's.Comment

Re: The next GTA: where do you want it?
I really hope they don't go foreign or too far back in time. Going back to the 80s was one thing, but a game in the 50s would be a completely different game. I think it needs to stay relatively modern to keep with the GTA themes of the past.
I'd say, going into the next-gen consoles, they make a very large ficticious state with climate varying from a snowy-mountain town to some beach and/or lake down in a different part of the state. Also don't rule out a season change in the game, we may see distinctive spring, summer, fall, winters in the game and that would allow for some nice season-specific vehicles and missions(like skiing as someone suggested or maybe there's a mission you can only do when the lake is frozen over, something along those lines).
That's my best hope, but I really woudln't be surprised to see them go to London or another foreign city.Comment

To me, present day makes the most sense. Liberty City was a long time ago so I can see them revisiting a type of city similar to it. I also think they will expand the game world like they did in San Andreas. How much bigger do you guys think the game world will be?Comment

On a related note, didn't Rockstar buy the web rights to a bunch of different domain names before they announced SA? It was to keep their secret for San Andreas but I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up using one of those other names they bought the domain rights for.Comment

Originally posted by CM1847As big as they want. They can probably make a map that would take over an hour to drive from one end to another. I think the first game of next-gen will be more concentrated on any other nice effects they can add(like seasons if they could, or time of day, better car physics, ect ect). I think we'll see a map about the size as SA(probably a little bigger).

Originally posted by nkhera1I think Blu-Ray disk can hold like 3 to 6 times the space of a normal disk so they could probably make a miny country with some nearby islands and probably still add the stuff you mentioned.
Also if they make it TOO big it could make the drives between cities too boring for people to stand. It would be like having a Final Fantasy type RPG(thinking like FF7, haven't played any more recent ones) but when you exit a town, instead of going to a much larger map for quicker travel, you keep the same dimensions and movement. It has the potential to become so monotonous that it would really take away from the game. And if they drew out the dimensions like an RPG does it would also take away from the GTA feel. I know an easy solution would be to cut down the distance between towns, but that would also take away from the game if all the towns are different but right next to each other.
Just my opinion, but I think we see something on the scale of a small state rather than a small country. Basically something slightly bigger than SA. If they do it right I would be really excited about a HUGE map, but expanding it a lot would introduce some issues.Comment
