I just got tired of the crap on Halo 2 online. I liked the ranked games when you had good players, but if you got idiots, racists, e-thugs, quitters, cheaters, 5 yr old screaming children...it's too much.
This is why I'll take a quality franshise mode over online play ANY day of the week. To me online is the icing on the cake, but nowhere near the most important part.
Oh and from my understanding XBL is the way to go as it's smoother than the PS2 online? Or at least it was at first. I don't know personally cuz I've never been online with the ps2. But with the PS2 can't you play on dial up? Or is it broadband only?
I play 95% of my games offline, thats the way I like it. I don't have to put up with loud kids/adults.
XBL is worth it but only for certain games IE: Halo 2. I got XBL for Halo 2 and at the time it was worth it. However sitting here in May and not having played the game since February I am having some regrets.
Playing online is cool I guess, but its not really a selling point/big deal to me.Comment

Re: Holy ****! I thought XBL was THE way to go?
People who do have it, and/or spend a lot of time in message boards and such, often overestimate its popularity and usage. The way magazines such as EGM, or gamesites like IGN, spend so much of their review space on the online aspect of a game also tends to skew the perspective of online console gaming.
When Nintendo execs made their infamous comments about "consumers not caring about online play" the hardcore community reacted with scorn and ridicule, but if more than 75% of those who own a given console don't use the online capabilities of the system you could say that they have a point.
Like many in this thread, my main problem with it stems from the effort it takes just to have some quality games. I don't have the energy or patience deal with any foolishness.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

For me XBL is the way to go. Playing Halo 2 with friends in Indy or friends down the road as a party is always a good time. I don't care about its popularity or usage. It is popular enough for me to always be able to find a game.University of Evansville Graduate

Re: Holy ****! I thought XBL was THE way to go?
I wouldn't be able to play games without Live. I play in leagues when available so that cuts out a bunch of idiots. For Halo, when playing with friends I have the headset on. When playing against people I don't know I only have it for Team Skirmish....Team Slayer I don't wear it as there's no real strategy to it so I don't need to hear what people are saying.
Personally, I hate playing against AI in sports games and in FPS games I don't mind playing the levels/campaigns alone but prefer to do some sort of multiplayer instead or at least co-op against the computer.Comment

Playing online is cool I guess, but its not really a selling point/big deal to me.Jerks can spoil your fun at times, but there are still great players online looking for a quality match up.. & when 360 comes out, MS will be able to know who cheats first hand & will ban them.. This has already been confirmed.. MS will be watching you while you play.Scary aint it?
