    Re: Ninety-Nine Nights

    I like it.

edit: I LOVE it. The fun is the use of the combos. You can just do x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x if you want, but A. you won't last long, B. you're missing the fun. Mastering the 5 or 6 combo's from each level are cool once you can do them on command, and use them at the right time. For exampple, x,x,x y(repeatedly) does a pretty cool spin move that can take out hundreds at a time. The move doesn't work as well on bigger foes, (nothing like being swarmed by hundreds of huge, club weilding barbarian types) so you have to adjust. I also like how the enemy AI will have troops set up outside of your battle and send waves of arrows in. You have to allocate forces, and be careful not to stay in one place too long. There are weapon upgrades, and surprising depth...if you look for it.

Sometimes the sight of what seems like thousands of enemies pouring over a hill is kinda unsettling...but feels pretty awesome when you start wiping them out en masse. Def purchase for me.

      First US Review is up

Ninety-Nine Nights puts a lot of enemies onscreen but doesn't give you many interesting ways to dispose of them.

Gamespot = 5.9 OUCH! I don't know how this game only got a 1 page review and it's kind of annoying. I thought that the demo was good and if you like Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warrirors than this game is more of the same but with more enemies and better graphics.

The Good: Puts a lot of enemies onscreen.

The Bad: Basic attacks work better than the flashier combos; lame english voice acting with no apparent alternative soundtrack; combat is very repetitive.

EGM killed it, 4.5, 4.5, and a 6. Got the mag earlier in the week. I'm passing on the game. Gonna trade Dead Rising towards Madden and just live with Madden and Saint's Row for August.

          Re: Ninety-Nine Nights

I read that review. What the hell did they expect? The review killed it because its basically just a KUF or DW...but WTF? Its meant to be a next-gen KUF and DW. Don't they know that most folks who liked KUF or DW already know that this type of game is repetitive? There were 7 titles between those 2 franchises...obviously there is a pretty good fanbase for button mashing beat-em-ups. The camera is wonky, but other than that the game was very good if you like that style.

Meh...I'm still getting it, I had a blast with the demo.

            What was EGM's complaints?

I see your not enjoying Dead Rising to be getting rid of it so quick.

My only real complaint had to do with the stupid camera, which could possibly be somewhat fixed in the full version. Like you said, this is next gen Dynasty Warriors, Kingdom Under Fire, and Samurai Warriors.

This will sell well since there is a large fanbase for this type of game + the $50 price tag helps.

I was expecting in the 7 range.

At least they weren't complaining about no online play/multiplayer like some other reviews I've seen. People fail to realize that's not something that can be put in every game. I've even seen it asked for in Hitman wich is just rediculous.

How much trade in credit will DR be worth?

Looks like a fun game. But like DR it doesn't seem to have the legs to be a purchase.

Right now it's worth between $30-$35 @ EB. I'm so glad I rented this game, it only cost me $7 duckets.

The demo is pretty fun, imho. I bought DW5 for 360 and it was cool, but I'm loving the graphics on 99. I'm not going to buy it if my store gets a copy otherwise I'll wait a couple months for the used price to drop and I'll get it then. But I will have this one in my possession.

EGM murdered this game in their review. I tend to agree that it ain't even worth a rental.

Ninety-Nine Nights has struggled to find an identity since it was first revealed in trailer form. Unfortunately, it appears that it never decided on one. The first half of the game plays like the team was looking at adding some strategic elements, but the second half is pure action. Through it all, you have an attempt to cover up some of the shallowest gameplay around with slick animations and a weak story. The final product isn't terrible, but it's hardly memorable and there isn't anything gripping to make you want to go back and pound on the attack buttons more. With slowdown hitting at the peak of battles and no bonus features worth looking at, Ninety-Nine Nights is a game that is hard to get immersed in and even harder to enjoy.

Ughhh...another bad review. Looks like it's a GF candidate at best. too bad, i thought KUF was great. Enchanted Arms just got bumped to the purchase list unless Def Jam PSP blows me away...

I think that I'm holding off on this one also. Bad review after bad review. I had $35 down on this since I traded a bunch of games in, but I think I'm shifting the pre-pay to something else. I figure with Madden and Saints Row coming out + playing through Dead Rising and NCAA 07, that's more than enough for me.
