Originally posted by HMcCoyExactly. It can't be worse than KUF or DW. Don't put much stock in any reviewer who doesn't like those types of games in the first place. It's like someone who hates sports games doing the Madden review...
I think that many times IGN and Gamespot have the wrong people doing some of these reviews. I played the demo and this game should have scored around a 7.0 in my opinion. N3 is a much prettier version of Dynasty Warriors, so I don't know what people were expecting.
This type of genre is what it is, hack n' slash maddness. Capcom showed what can be done with this genre by taking a game like Dead Rising and setting requirements to the game so the gameplay wouldn't get repetitive. I think that those that like DW, KUF, and SW will like this game.
I'm going to hold off till it's a bit cheaper.Comment

Team XBOX = 6.7

The Bottom Line
The hack-and-slash genre is a tough nut to crack, especially when dealing with new console technology. It feels like more could have been done with Ninety-Nine Nights without losing its button mashing appeal; what exactly, I don’t know. But I left the battle bloody from the knuckles to the fingertips and didn’t really feel that satisfied. Was something lost in translation? Could be. But I’m convinced that the button mashing genre needs to grow up a bit before invading the Xbox 360 again.

This game reminds me a lot of chromehounds in the reviewers eyes, not for everyone, but fans of the genre shouldn't be too dissapointed with it.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 08-15-2006, 09:24 PM.Comment

Re: Ninety-Nine Nights
Did anyone rent or buy this game? I was over at a few other boards and people say that the reviews haven't been fair at all.Comment

Re: Ninety-Nine Nights
I bought it but only played one level so far. From playing that level I get the feeling that's all the reviewers played.
Guess I shouldn't comment on story or gameplay just yet but I love the graphics and menus.
My only complaint so far is that subtitles can't be turned off. They speak in english so I don't know why, kind of makes it less cinematic. Normally wouldn't think anything of it but everything else about the game is so cinematic the subtitles bring it down a bit.Comment

It's probably a game for the genre fans. I'm considering it on my tight college budget.Comment

Re: Ninety-Nine Nights
I rented it and it's a great game, but there's no way I'd buy it. Some of the levels take quite a while to get thru and there are no checkpoints, so you have to start all the way over in a level once you die. It's frustrating to say the leastComment

Re: Ninety-Nine Nights
Had a ton of holiday cash after taking back the PS3, and this one was 29 bucks at Gamestop. Great, great game for the price. Sometimes there seem to be thousands on-screen at a time...lots of combos and cool moves. As mentioned in the reviews and also in this thread...the lack of checkpoints REALLY hurt this game, thats the only downer for me so far. You can battle hordes for a good 45 minutes, hit a bad spell, and its all for nothing. Back to the very beginning. ugghhh...frustarting to death, but very challenging. I can't wait to unlock more players.
Overall, I like it alot for 30 bucks.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment
