For the way I like to play its perfect. Its really two games in one. There are the PvP games(which isn't really my type of game-so I haven't tried it yet), that take place in specific controlled arenas between teams that are evenly matched in terms of numbers and levels. Victory is determined by superior "builds"(skill sets you assign to your player), tactics, and teamwork. Teams can be randomly assigned if you want to PvP but don't have a team or guild. Or of course you can fight with your friends or guildmate.

There is no random PvP-So ganking and griefing and such don't exist.

As far my style of gaming(PvE) goes ,I'm really liking the game. It won't be for everyone though. The only time you will see players who aren't in your party is when you are in one of the cities or towns. If you go on a quest or mission- only your party will be in the quest area(Your party can be you solo, you and your henchmen-CPU controlled teamates-, or you and your friends or guildmates.- In the early part of the game you can only have two people in your party, later, four, then later eight.

Because each party has their own private quest area-they is no looting, camping, or questing "lines". If you want to see other teams and people wandering around the quest areas, then this might not be the game for you.

I love the story, the graphics, I have had very litte lag. This game seems to be more friendly to the casual player, and not geared toward the "Uber" gamer.

Hey thanks for the impressions jfsolo, they're pretty much in tune with what I've been hearing about the game so I think I'm picking it up on the way home from work today. Once upon a time I was a hardcore EQ/DAoC guy, but these days due to a wife and a job I lack the free time I once had for MMORPGs. I've missed the genre though, so I think GW definitely merits a look. Again, thanks for the thoughts and if anyone else is planning on messing around with the game, look me up here or in PMs and maybe we can do some running around together.

I don't think I'd compare it to diablo.

guild wars sounds interesting from what i've read, just not sure it'd have the depth that would keep me playing, plus with WoW I really don't need another time sink

Yes, I have had it for a while. Very similar to Diablo 2, it's a blatant ripoff, but that's what made me like it. The animations are kind of clunky, but it's a blast to play. I played it most of the day yesterday after recommending it to you lol.

FYI, Guild Wars advertises itself as a "cooperative online RPG," not a MMORPG. If you're looking for a game with the depth of, say, WoW I think you'll be disappointed. However, I played for a while last night with a Ranger template in the randomly-assigned 4v4 arena battles and had a blast. With the amount of profession and skill combinations, there's considerable strategic variety in every PvP encounter and nobody can spam an "I win" button like "AOE Mez" in DAoC, for instance. Having teammates whose skills mesh well with each other's strengths and weaknesses is essential, as is some active communication about shared targets, etc.

I haven't really dug into the process of creating a character from scratch and leveling him up in the "roleplaying" side of the game, but I've been really impressed by how much fun and how interesting the PvP combat is in GW.

Oh, and to answer your query, PvP = "player vs player" and PvE = "player vs enemy."

DAMN this game is gorgeous

Fun game, I made a Ranger and have been running around questing. It's not that different from any MMO for me since most of the time I run around solo as it is. Now I don't have to worry about some jackass kill stealing me or spawn camping

how is it with only 8 slots of powers to work with? Also, this one isn't a monthly fee, right? sounds interesting, not sure if i'll pick it up or not. Gotta keep the push towards a mount going
