Wow, late last night I was watching and they reported 12 were alive, and just one was going to the hopsital.

I thought, "They were stuck in a mine for two days and only one guy had to go to the hospital? Something isn't right." Now I wake up and see this. Wow.

Yeah, that was my reaction as well.

Stuck down there with methane gas? I knew it wasn't going to end well.

The problem is that the different media outlets all want to be the first to break the story. They didn't back-check any of their info. They went off of miscommunication between the people out in the field who called others closer to the command center and said "We've found 12 people". They just never stated whether they were alive or not.


The minors in Pottsville, PA all survived a similar experience. I'm sure all these families had that in the back of their minds - "If those guys survived, our guys can survive". However, the minute the scrolling thing on the bottom of my screen stated something like "The Governor can't confirm these reports" (reports that they were alive), I knew there was something wrong.

I blame the mining officials for giving them the incorrect information in the first place. Even if it is the first priority of journalism to get the facts straight(or at least that's what it USED to be).

A very sad time indeed. As a kid that grew up in WV I feel for those families. My pops was a coal miner until about 1989. Another drawback to working in the mines is a condition called black lung disease. Its from inhaling all that coal dust into the body to the point of the lungs being a black color. (think of a person who smokes and there lungs look like crap). Black lung is just a little worse looking. My condolences go to all the families involved. Very bad job by the media.Very bad!!

Again, the media cannot be solely blamed for this. You have to take into account that the msicommunication came from the people in the command centre as well.

Last night before I went to bed I remember turning on CNN and seeing clips of people running in the streets saying they found them alive, crying tears of joy. This morning I get to work and my co-worker asked me if I heard about the minors, im like yeah they found them alive and he told me the news..I was like WOW.

I cant believe what the family members and friends are going through. Under all the stress and worry for three days, they come in tell you your husband, father, brother, uncle whatever he was is alive..you are so happy and the weight is lifted off your sholder, then two hours later they tell you, sorry we wrong, they have passed away. So sad...

This isn't meant to come across as cold or heartless in any way, but I think it deserves mentioning....

Since this in no way relates to entertainment or technology, why is it being allowed? Because people died or what? I truly feel horrible for the families of these people, as they had to go through all that roller coaster of emotions, thinking their loved ones were coming back to them, and then suddenly having it all yanked away from them again. However, based on principle alone, what makes this subject any more worthy of being allowed in this forum over any other current event topic that would likely be shut down?

I'm not attempting to fan the flames mods, so please don't think that. I am merely wondering what exactly is the criteria you all are using to deem what is ok and what isn't, when it comes to topics not falling under the guidelines of the forum.

I also don't mean to sound rude, but why is this being allowed in this forum? I'm just trying to speak out and be helpful, no hate.

Anyway, to whomever said the survivor would be fine... it has been looking critical lately. Thankfully, he has been progressing, but brain surgery? Ugh!
