Re: How large is your music library?

I did that for a while, but there's rarely a hip-hop album thats worth $12 for the real thing. Though I bought more CD's in '05 than I bought in the previous 7 or 8 years combined.Originally posted by Graphik
Plus with the cds, I still like looking at liner notes and the pictures. I'm a sucker for having the real, physical album. Its the whole collecting aspect.

If there's a good underground artist or album I'll definately purchase it to support the artist."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

For example, if you liked ATLiens by Outkast but you just hadn't bought it or you lost it or something, would you download it or go back and buy it? I buy CDs regardless of who it is. Any artist that puts that much work into an album deserves my money.-Jay Illestrate, Emcee/Producer/Graphic Artist

Re: How large is your music library?

I buy only underground music..mainly becuase if I don't, know one else will. ****ty Cent and the rest of those wack mainstream artists don't need my money. Hell, it puts a smile on my face when I hear about wack rappers going bankrupt. I guess you can call me a '97 cuz I ain't old school and I'm sure as hell not new school.Originally posted by 3rdAnswerOk, question. Re: How large is your music library?

I think people are getting it mixed up what underground music is. Last I checked, underground artist don't have a deal and mostly sell their CDs on their own. Murs, Blueprint, Atmosphere and all them....not considered underground. Maybe less well known, but not underground.-Jay Illestrate, Emcee/Producer/Graphic Artist

Re: How large is your music library?

I consider them indie...I use underground and Indie in the same light. Rhymesayers Entertainment is an indie label or can be considered undergound. Last time I checked...underground is a state of mind moreso then a state of being signed.Originally posted by 3rdAnswerI think people are getting it mixed up what underground music is. Re: How large is your music library?

I disagree...Indie to me is short for independant. All of the acts 3rd suggests are all independant; which mean they don't have a major distribution channel. Pretty much, they're just better off then those selling tapes out of their trunk. (which each and every one of the artist he mentioned did) Does that make them sellouts? Or less undergound? I don't buy that...50 cent was undergound too, but can you tell me the music is still there? Hence, undergound is a state of mind.Originally posted by dieselboyIndie has become more of a specific genre, not the same as underground.Cameras or guns, one of them is gonna shoot me to death.Comment

Well I've been into rap since the early 90's so I bought all those albums when they came out. I own tons of albums from pre-1997, all the classics.

But since '98 or so I've mostly DL'd because hip-hop went down the pooper for the most part until recently."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: How large is your music library?

I agree with that right there. Underground emcees are people that no one has heard of...hence the name underground...the unknown. PLENTY of people have heard of Murs and Atmosphere and the like...maybe just not as many people as you wish did.Originally posted by dieselboyIndie has become more of a specific genre, not the same as underground.-Jay Illestrate, Emcee/Producer/Graphic Artist
