Re: Pay Pal Fraud
You probably got a phony e-mail telling you to confirm your info and what it did was it sent it to a hacker who took your money. I get them all the time. It looks like an eBay or PayPal e-mail (e-mail addresses are easy to replicate by hackers) but links and everything are IP addresses (like 128.38.68.ebay.com) or misleading URLs (ebay.com.net). I almost fell for it once until I noticed the actual address (same goes for IMs that are viruses; always right-click and click "Show Hyperlink" to know for sure if it is going to what you think it is going or if it is going to something like an ".exe" which is definitely a virus).
Currently, I am having my troubles with FedEx. I bought a printer off eBay for $99.60 and it was shipped and everything. I got the FedEx e-mails and the package showed up in its system on fedex.com but I got an e-mail the day of delivery saying it was delivered when it really was not. I had been home all day and nothing came to the door, nor did I accept or sign for any packages.
I cannot get my money back via PayPal because the seller did ship the package. I think FedEx delivered it to the wrong house (I live in a house among five others that are identical in which my address as a #2 on the end because it is behind another hosue). I asked all my neighbors if they signed or received any FedEx packages and they all said no. So now I keep trying to get the delivery terminal here in Tucson to respond but I always get the "they will call you in 24-hours" crap.
I am thinking about taking them to small claims court because it is costing me more money to print papers, assignments and what have you at school on top of the $100 I lost on the deal.Comment

Re: Pay Pal Fraud
There are a myriad of ways they could get your info. They could have even got the information by compromising Paypal's security. My wife opened a PayPal account to buy one item, never used the account again for 6 months, and then someone used it to wire $1k to the Ukraine! We have a sneaking suspision that our email account information was compromised and my wife had the same email/paypal password. We didn't have to pay any money because my wife disputed the charge with her credit card company.Originally posted by Mike8027See I didn't. To this day I have no idea how they got my password.
I would recommend not using Paypal, but I realize most people have to use it for ebay purposes. I have an account, but it is linked to a separate savings account that always has under $100. I would also recommend changing your password every 30 days and having your password being a combination of letters, numbers, and at least 1 character...for instance, !33paypal>>Comment

Re: Pay Pal Fraud
I use a different password on Paypal and other money sites like Firepay or Neteller than I do for everything else.Comment
