I live in Indiana also. Put $5000 down and pay $750 a month. That will be going down later this year when I refinance though. Interest rate is kind of high because I was two years out of a bankruptcy. I also have a variable rate mortgage. Will definately be getting a fixed rate mortgage the second time around.

Your not kidding about Illinois. My dad used to work out in Dupage county. Could not find a house for less then $175,000 and that was a dump. I used to live in South Holland but we moved to Indiana in 1988. Houses in Indiana have gone up quite a bit in the past 4 years but still nothing compared to Illinois.

I am too lazy to go snap a picture. Mine is covered in mud the way it should be though.

I haven't seen a house listed in San Diego for less than $500,000 in some time. Median house price here was just under $600,000 not too long ago. But it's slowing down now.

It evens out though. Everthing is higher in California including pay. So if you take a salary and house prices and compare to another area of the country it would even out. More money out west but higher prices also. I know Florida is another place where house prices skyrocketed over the past 10 years. In 1996 I took a vacation down there. Could have bought a 3 bedroom house with a pool for $80,000 in a nice neighborhood. Went down there last year and saw nothing less then $150,000.

One day at work I was talking to a guy on the phone from Florida (I work for a telemarketing company and please no smart comments. It pays the bills and I am not the one who is calling your house). He was telling me about 5 or 6 years ago he could have bought 1/2 acre lots in the town he lived in for $4000. Today the same lots are selling for $80,000 to $100,000 just for the lot. So prices are going up everywhere.

If the interest rates jumps up though we will see the price of house drop. They go hand in hand. Inerest rates go down house prices go up. Interest rates go up house prices go down.

How about NJ. Very expensive over here. Florida is not that expensive although it is climbing and has climbed the past couple of years.

That's close to what I'm paying as well ($1050).

The suburbs surrounding Pittsburgh are pretty expensive for the most part (not California expensive though!). There are some houses for $175,000, but most need a lot of work. A decent house runs for about $300,000.

What's the size of these houses? I have a nice 1400 square foot house with a good size yard, in a really nice neighborhood that I bought 2 years ago for 129K. The house was appraised at 140 and now is probably worth near 150-155. In my neighborhood and surrounding area, 175 will get you a really nice house. I'm very happy with my house though.

This thread went from car pictures to house payments?

In 2002 we bought a 1500 sq ft house for about $400,000. This last year we sold it for around 700k. We bought a 2600 sq ft. house for way more than you should pay for a 2600 sq ft. house with a tiny yard, but we really had no choice we simply ran out of room in our old house.

Damn...my 1750 square foot house cost $175 000 when it was bought ('87), and now would bring in about $350 thousand. About 40 minutes north of me, 3000+ square footers are selling for $450 thousand also (I only know that because I might be moving there).

And to try to stay on topic, this is the car I drive (but it's not mine technically)

I drive a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid.....you've all seen civics before so no need for a pic. I love it, really smooth ride with the CVT (continuously variable transmission), with great mileage (usually around 42 mpg, with mainly city type driving). But its a good thing I don't have a need for speed, because, lets just say the Slowsky's would love driving my car =)

The only pictures I've got are after I wrecked it, but it's better now. 1996 Tacoma.
