I don't think it's fair to judge people off what they say on the internet. The internet, specifically instant messengers, are all about quickness. You just want to get what you want to say out there. Though of course most of the time we have plenty of time to say what we want in full form (u --> you).

I know on message boards I don't use shorthand. I try to use proper grammar.

And here's another word to add to the list:
Retarted ... should be ********.

Well, it's up to instructors/teachers to find ways to make classes more interesting.

I was looking at my typing when I first started on the boards and I wanted to vomit. I think that I realized I was gaining a bad habit so I decided to start writing things out like they were meant to be. I mean honestly, almost all people who write on the boards, IM, etc. can't be so bad at typing that they need to shorten things out. Just laziness if you ask me.

I try to type well on message boards.

The only time I will let my typing slide a little is on AIM, and I really don't use it that frequently. Mostly I just speak in phrases and omit capitalization... I shorten up a few words but try to keep things as readable as possible.

I agree, some of the spelling and grammar I see makes me want to vomit, even in school.
