    Knee Injuries

Ok, last night I was playing ultimate frisbee in a parking lot. The other team has it, and they try and pass. I run in to intercept it, and I grab it the same time as the other guy. We're both holding on to it, and my left leg either twists or does something and it gives out. It hurts for a little bit, and I just lay there, and after about a minute it feels good enough to walk off.

After about 10-15 minutes it doesn't really hurt much anymore, so I start playing again, planning to mostly just jog around. A couple minutes later, I try and take a big step and i feel pain and it gives out again, so I stop playing.

Both times I heard some noise when I did it. Don't know if it was a pop, crack, something. It wasn't that loud, mostly no one else heard it.

Again, after about 15 minutes the 2nd time it didn't really hurt that much. I just hung out there for another hour or so before going home, and it didn't hurt really at all when I was just sitting or standing, it was just kind of hard to walk.

I iced it a little when I got home, and then today I woke up and can barely walk without crutches. It doesn't hurt that bad, just some discomfort, but I can't really put weight on it. It's the left side of the knee that I feel pain in.

Any idea what I might have done to it? Is it something that I should go to the doctors for right away, or just wait and see if it feels better first? Thoughts?

Anytime you hear something pop with your knee, thats not good. I wouldnt chance hurting it more by walking around it. Get it checked out.

Anytime ur knee goes "out" like that...more than likely it is ur ACL....i've had 2 ACL operations (1 on each knee)....let me tell you this, u should definitely get it checked out because in about 5-6 days, your knee will feel fine and you will have no pain at all, when u can actually could quite possibly have a partially torn ACL...u'll go out and play or mess around or whatever (because ur knee feels fine) and you will end up completely tearing it and making it worse.....thats what happened to me the 1st time i tore my ACL.... If you have any pain in the inside part of the back of your knee, its the ACL....if you feel most of ur pain on the side, it could be your MCL...either way, you should get it checked out....especially if ur are an active person.....but if you are the type to just play video games and log on to Operation Sports all day, then just keep it elevated and ice it.....

I'll add this....the ACL is what holds your knee in place...its what keeps it stable, so it definitly sounds like you damaged it somehow....you may have torn ur miniscus also....sucks....i've been there twice.....hope everything goes well for you!

I would go ahead and get an MRI. I waited a long time after first hearing the dreaded "pop", and ended up hurting my knee even worse. I would have just had a ACL tear, but I tried to play again weeks later and ended up damaging my miniscus also. Hopefully yours isnt torn.

Yeah, you're going to want to get that checked out. Usually major ligament tears (ACL, MCL, PCL, LCL) - and you won't be walking around. However, occasionally a ligament will tear straight through on the first injury.. in which case it is not unheard of for the pain to be bearable - be able to walk around, continue playing football/frisbee/whatever. The main problem when this happens is usually stability.. but I do know of people who have continued to play with a cleanly-torn ligament.
I'm not saying that's what happened to you, but you're going to want to make sure either way.. good luck.

Doctor says he thinks its a torn acl.

Won't be able to get a mri for a week or so to know for sure.

                          Re: Knee Injuries

I have had two friends do the same thing in the past two weeks. It cost one friend a starting spot on our college football team and we are typically rated top 5 which sucks big time. Listen to K-Rob because that is the exact same thing my friend in football described. He hurt his knee in spring drills and thought he just tore cartilage because it didn't feel like when he tore his other ACL. When it felt better about 4 days later he thought it wasn't too bad but had it checked out and found out he tore his ACL.

Good luck bro I hope the doctor was wrong

if it was a torn ACL, MCL, you would not have been able to continue playing on it
