I'm hoping the MRI shows it's just a sprain, but I doubt it.

Re: Knee Injuries
I wasn't really playing on it. I tried playing for about 2 minutes. I was just barely jogging, limping around, and then the very first time I tried to put pressure on it, it gave out again.Originally posted by larrygiterdone

Re: Knee Injuries
He never said he continued to play on it. He tried, and it gave out. From what he was describing in his first post, it sounds exactly like a torn ACL.Originally posted by larrygiterdonesounds like a knee sprain to me
if it was a torn ACL, MCL, you would not have been able to continue playing on itComment

Re: Knee Injuries
That happend me me except it doesnt hurt all the time, like when i try to bend it it feels like it pops out of the socket and then i have a really bad pain in that knee for a few hours then it goes fine. It sucks though.

that's what happens with Torn ACLs. Knee snaps, hurts like hell for a good 10-15 minutes, then suddenly everything feels fine...you can walk move on it, everything. And then, thinking you just overreacted you start moving around, try playing(as Jets did) and bam...you're screwed.
Hope everything goes well, jets

Re: Knee Injuries
It sounds like a ACL tear, I walked around for almost a year with mine torn, I just couldn't make any quick movements.
Good luck with the MRI, if it is the ACL it's not that bad, the surgery recovery aint too bad, and they give you some nice painkillers.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Re: Knee Injuries
You can have a torn ACL and a couple of minutes or so of just "walking it off" you could feel as if nothing was wrong...or too seriously wrong i should say.... Then main issue with the ACL is stability. The initial pain is pretty severe...pretty much like if you twist your ankle pretty bad....you walk it off, not letting it get stiff and after awhile it feels ok again.....but once your ACL is torn, your knee wont be stable, therefore any sudden cuts, running backwards, or any lateral movement and your knee will buckle again.....and you may do even more damage to your knee...Originally posted by larrygiterdonesounds like a knee sprain to me

trust me i've been thru this twice.....and it was my mistake for being hard headed the 1st time i hurt my 1st knee (1996 i believe)....i was quicker to go to the doctor when i hurt my 2nd.....but still today, it is my 1st knee that is always giving me problems .......i'm 28 years old right now, and my knees make me feel like im 58.....seriously, i can't play like i used to (or like i want to), i can't run, and i hate the winter time. I have a 2 year old son and i really want to be able to play basketball with him when he gets older (like my dad did with me when i was younger), so im still learning to take it easy on my knees.....
NYJets, hope your rehab goes well...if the doc says stay off it for 3 months, stay off it for 3 months....if you heard a 'pop' you probably have AT LEAST a partially torn ACL (in which u wont require surgury).....either way, listen to your doc and take your rehab seriously......good luck!Last edited by K_rob11; 05-08-2006, 11:24 AM."Basketball is my favorite sport

Re: Knee Injuries
Ive had bad knee's all my life but i keep staying active and playing ball, well one day after playing ball now, when i walk i feel this popping sensation in my knee like its rolling over and this is jus from walking. So i got me a nice knee brace and it seems to help, but i cant afford no surgury, but i have some bad knee's no cartlidge in each of em.

Still waiting for an mri to know how bad the tear is.
If it's only partially torn, and it doesn't require surgery, would you be able to play sports like basketball with cutting without getting the surgery?
Do some people play "cutting" sports with a torn acl?Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Knee Injuries
Yes, you can still play. Mine was partially torn, but I was back playing baseball about a week after sustaining the injury. For the first couple weeks, it felt like I was getting stabbed in the knee cap whenever I'd "cut" on it.Originally posted by NYJetsThanks.

It'll hurt. You'll have good days, and bad days, but you can still play on it.
We had a guy on the team with a torn ACL. He tried playing with a knee brace, but the knee would still give out on him. He hung it up for the season.Comment

Re: Knee Injuries
Yes....if it is partially torn, you can still play...but it is only wise to do so after you rehab (or atleast thats what i would do because you always have a bigger chance of making the tear complete)....not saying it will happen but u should give ur knee time to heal. You will feel better in about a week or so after the swelling goes down but partially torn ligaments usually take about 3 months to fully heal....but everyone's body is different soOriginally posted by NYJetsThanks.

...its really up to your body...some have stronger muscles than others (quads being the most important).....
Besides, Hines Ward plays NFL FOOTBALL with NO ACL! Isn't that a trip....i still to this day can't comprehend that.

Re: Knee Injuries
Good luck with your surgery and recovery. Do you know if they are going to use part of your patella tendon to replace the ACL?I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life.
