Anyone ever work at a walgreens?
My girlfriend is making ok money right now (nothing spectacular, but better than the toys r us paychecks, haha old school thread reference there for those who remember), but she hates her job right now with a passion. Shes just absolutly misrible there. Anyway, she put out a few applications for the hell of it, and i guess walgreens near her house called her back with a job within the photo developing department. Right now shes a receptionist at a small business, making about 1200 a month. and this is a jump into retail which could be a pretty big change for her sicne shes now used to sitting at a desk doing computer stuff. Anyway she feels she can get the job, but is nervious about the starting wage and the work. Anyone know anything about the developing photo department? or any starting wages? because im kind of curious for her sake too. Shes going into an interview tomorrow, and ofcourse I could easily wait to see what they say, but im so curious so I figured id just see some of your guys thoughts.Tags: None -
Re: Anyone ever work at a walgreens?
I applied at Walgreens with three-plus years retail experience, and was only offered 6.90 an hour to start.
I wouldn't recommend retail to anyone who's making $24k a year, unless they're applying for a salary management position. Retail just doesn't pay enough to compete.Co-Commish of the OS Vets I & II

Another thing to consider is that when you're in retail, your weekends aren't "yours" anymore.Comment

Re: Anyone ever work at a walgreens?
yea the whole weekend thing would definatly suck because i work 9-5 M-F and, well right now shes works like 8-6 M-F, but we always hang out friday night, all of saturday and all of sunday....this could really suck.Comment

I feel your pain man. But like Kredit said, it all depends on how miserable she is.Originally posted by MagicBucsWsoxFanyea the whole weekend thing would definatly suck because i work 9-5 M-F and, well right now shes works like 8-6 M-F, but we always hang out friday night, all of saturday and all of sunday....this could really suck.Comment

Re: Anyone ever work at a walgreens?
well i asked her through email if shed leave her current job if the pay is like it was at toys r us and shes claiming based on what her friend who used to work at one told her, that she'll make at least 8.50-9.00 an hour, which she says is fine as long as it gets her out of her current job. That seems a bit much. I hope shes right and it is that, or heck even somehow more, but I was thinking along the lines of 7-7.50 and i know someone earlier in the thread mentioned 6.90. So we'll see.Comment

Just remember one thing, most people don't like their jobs. She's taking a drastic step backwards that she may have to explain one day.Comment

Re: Anyone ever work at a walgreens?
true, but she got this job and works with, her uncle. The same uncle she lives with so shes extra fed up with him. So she was pretty much brought in. I mean she gets hardly any benifits, she had to argue and go through hell to get a week vacation for our florida trip last month after she worked for 7 months without any days off. She works pretty much 10 hours a day, gets verbally absused by her "boss" (not her uncle) according to her. And she gets everyone elses junk thrown at her because they dont feel like doing it. SO basically shes jsut the little whipping girl, but money wise, compaired to the 200 dollar toys r us check, shes now getting like 650 and thas a huge difference. But I dont think she'll go if its going to be as bad as toys r us. Shell make sure its at least decent.Originally posted by ExtremeGamerJust remember one thing, most people don't like their jobs. Re: Anyone ever work at a walgreens?
I would definitely tell her not to quit her current job, until she has time to think about what the other places are offering her.Comment

Re: Anyone ever work at a walgreens?
oh no, I agree. She wont quit her current job, until shes got another in place, but she seems pretty sold that unless this interview goes horrible and they offer her extreamly low pay or wierd crappy hours that she wants this job regardless because she needs out.Originally posted by davehughes14I would definitely tell her not to quit her current job, until she has time to think about what the other places are offering her.Comment
