Alls I have to say is that a lot parents did the exact same thing as you guys when they were kids, probably worse. Just kiss their behind for a bit and you should be fine. My parents were always alright with me drinking as long as I stayed where I was and never made any dumb decision, which I never did until college...

Just wondering how old are you? If I was drinking at 16 or 17 my parents probably wouldn't care that much since the legal age to drink here is 19.

I don't get drinking either, after having two friends of mine dying in alcohol related car accidents, I haven't touched the stuff in over five years.

And I don't mean social drinking either, I'm talking about the getting drunk, just to get drunk.

I don't understand the "drink to get drunk" thing. That's stupid.

I'll only drink alcohol that tastes good. Most of the time it has to be mixed, anyway.

                  Re: How long

If I was like 16 or so I doubt my parents would care. They beleived in the notion that they had equipped me with the knowhow on how to behave if I wanted to drink and what not to do. I don't really ever drink anymore, but when I did drink regularly I never drove. As for girls they probably wouldn't care, because again they would have been confident that I understood everything I needed to. I would be curious to see what your parents would say if you asked them what the big deal was.

Understandable, but it is possible to drink responsibly. I don't drink to get drunk very often anymore now that I'm a couple years out of college. Maybe a couple times a month at most. I do however have a couple beers whenever I go out to dinner, grilling at home, hanging out on the weekends, etc. I just enjoy drinking beer, especially during the summer.

I live in a very slightly upper-middle class town in CT. It disgusts me of how 80% of the people in my HS spend their weekends getting trashed and driving drunk (everyone does it, from top 1% of the class to the bottom). A reason I have very little sympathy for people who die DWI. I really believe this underage drinking is a huge moral gap in American society. Where the hell is the parenting?

Well, kids in other countries drink w. the parents while their teens. Granted they don't get hammered (at least as far as I know), but I don't think it's a US-only problem.

I don't know many first world countries where children getting drunk and then driving is such a huge problem. And what does it matter even if it is coommon in other countries? There is no excuse for this BS.

I wasn't saying it as an excuse, I was merely pointing out that it's not strictly a US problem.

I grew up in CT as well, I saw more 16 year olds getting bombed than I could believe. And most of them are f'd in the head for it now, years later.
