Never Forget!!

I posted this last year, but figured I'd post it again. Please don't let politics derail the thread.

Tommorrow is September 11, 2006. Five long hard years have passed since a national tragedy.

Let us never forget

-Let us never forget what happened

-Let us never forget the thousands who died in each Tower, the Pentagon, and on the flight in Pennsylvania

-Let us never forget the heroes of the flight which was headed for the White House or US Capitol and the heroes who took it down before it reached those targets.

-Let us never forget being thankful that the FAA shut down flights before flights boarded by terrorists took out targets in Los Angeles and the West Coast

-Let us never forget the way we came together as a country, politics didn't matter, religion didn't matter, race, color, or creed didnt matter. The unifying factor was that we were all Americans, and whether we were in New York, Knoxville, Jackson, San Antonio, Washington D.C., Iowa, or anywhere else,we mourned together. It's crazy that it takes a national tragedy to bring us all together as one nation

-Let us never forget the person and people who are responsible for this. May they burn for an eternity in hell for what he did to this country and to others around the world.

-Let us never forget the lives of our firefighters, public officials, and others who gave their lives trying to help people out of either of the towers and the Pentagon. They answered the call of duty and it cost them their lives

-Let us never forget the U.S. serviceman who've given their lives to guarantee our freedom in both Afghanistan, Iraq, and everywhere else they've been. Whether you agree or disagree with the current political situation, the soldiers still deserve respect and admiration and above all thanks for what they've put on the line for us. Many from now back till the Revolutionary War have given their lives to guarantee us freedom, and there's no greater sacrifice.

-Let us never forget the tears of anger, tears of sadness, and tears of joy once we found out a loved one was ok, which fell on September the 11th, 2001, and let's hope those same tears never have to fall again.

That's actually not true, the plot was postponed by Bin Laden.

Either way, R.I.P. to all the victims of 9/11.

Five years have now passed since our new reality was created. On this day, five years ago, our freedom was attempted to be stripped from us. Because of four planes, terrorists, and thousands of deaths, we now live in a reality under a new threat that has never before existed. There's a daily reminder of September 11th, 2001, in the news, and from memories of that fateful morning. So many people died on that day, for the sole reasons that they were American. American, just like you and I, trying to provide a living for their families--taking the OPPORTUNITY that our country had given them to do so. Terrorists have attempted to take what is rightfully hours, but we have risen stronger and more fierce, because the threat is too real. Since that day, many measures have been taken to prevent another, possibly more catastropic event from taking place. We must realize the threat, and we must be aware. People now assume that since five years have passed, it's okay to act hesitantly and react rather than act. That should not be the case, and is completely unnacceptable behavior. We cannot live the way we did before, because if we forget the lessons learned from September 11th, history will repeat itself. I feel personally attacked, offended, and hurt every day that some factions of people want to kill ME and destroy MY country, simply because I am an American.

There was a documentary on CBS about some of the firemen who served that fateul day. Very emotional and touching. Robert DeNeiro was the narrator and host. CBS did not edit any of the content and what we saw was what they were going through. I am glad I got to see it.

I don't want to say holiday because it's not a day to celebrate, but I think September 11th needs to be declared a national day of rememberance, with schools off, banks and libraries closed, and all the other normal proceedings that come along with a holiday.

9/11 changed my life forever. Long story short.

I was in the Army reserve living on the east side of my hometown of Detroit. I had been in the reserves since 94. After getting back from Mogadishu my wife made me promise that in order to have a child she wanted me to step down from my unit and live a safer life. She did not want to raise a child alone. I agreed and my son was born in 95.

All was fine until the summer of 01. I was hit in the shoulder by a stray bullet while walking with my family down Woodward ave. Damn,I was wounded in my hometown in front of my family. I thought the summer of 01 sucks. I had no clue it would get 1000 times worse.

The morning of 9/11 I watched in anger as innocent civilians died a horrific death. I lost my cousin TC a member of the NYFD.

I knew then my promise to my wife was going to be broken. I went back on active duty and headed to Afganistan. I was there for 3 weeks before heading to N. Iraq to work with the Kurds. I lost my right leg that summer. And my brother Damon a year later in Iraq. I have also lost 15 close friends in both wars.

I have no regrets. I miss my brother,cousin and friends badly. They were all hero's. I pray for their families everyday. I also pray for the hero's that are fighting today. I wish I could go back and be with them as I write. I'll never forget anything about that day and the 5 years after.

I own that documentary, I've watched it every 9/11. This has been a rough day for me every year, and I don't know anyone who passed away that day.

I can't add much more to the comments here but I will say this:

9/11, like World War I truly started off their respective centuries. The 20th Century was the century of worldwide wars and conflicts and the 21st century will be the century of terror. We must remain vigilant and never forget the events of that day for if we do, the innocent people who lost their lives will have died in vain.

I was watching a CNN show over the weekend and there's a guy who runs a site called mygooddeed.org (I believe that's it) and he's trying to get President Bush to declare 9/11 a day of charity. I think that would be one of the better ways to memorialize one of the darkest days in human history.
