It also seems a lot of companies are dominating the action and the offers after shipping usually push me to just buying new from a local store.

I was looking at some DS games on ebay and they were listed as a Buy Now for around C$20 (Canadian). That sounded great until I did a double check on the shipping. Despite the fact the company's home base is allegedly Vancouver, all prices are listed in pounds! That's twice what the Canadian dollar is worth and they wanted $20 shipping on each cartridge they mailed within the country! (it said $9.99 shipping which I thought was high until I realized it was pounds). I've shipped DVDs to my brother across the country for less than $5 including the packaging. These ripoffs just turn me off of ebay.
I wondering if Google Base will take off and if it will have the same problems that do plague ebay, like the ripoff scams.

Make sure the highest bidder is actually from eBay. Some fake accounts will say on the bottom: "Not registered to eBay" or "Registered through another site."

If you pay with Pay Pal; Vertified address only. Delivery confirmation is good but I've had trouble with it before. Pay a little extra and get adult signature confirmation. UPS offers this.

But the safest route you can take is no Pay Pal or any other online payment and just the money order. Once you receive it, ship it and you are good to go.

Oh, thanks a lot for the advice. But I've already stated in my ebay listing that I'll only accept paypal as a method of payment. Didn't know that money order was even safer.

I guess if I offer another item on ebay, I'll take your advice though.

I have a few bids now, and they SEEM to be legitimate.

delivery confirmation is a must. Even if you have to make it madatory and bump shipping up to force it. I've been ripped off as a buyer through paypal, since when I complained, he sent me an empty box with the code. Paypal saw that he sent me something and let the issue go.

so as a seller, you're usually protected if you have delivery confirmation.

It's the mentality in the user base. it will transistion over to anywhere. it doesnt just plaque ebay. i think its a problem everywhere.

i remember in like 1999 when paypal was barely taking off, you could actually trust the seller and the buyer when money orders and checks were sent. everyone is hiding behind their computer screen and its just an influx od criminals and people not realizing they are facing actual human beings and taking income and products away from them. they no longer have a face and its easier to scam because all people see is an email address.

its getting bad folks. the behind the computer screen mentality will destroy us all eventually imo. there is no accountaibility anymore

even outside of ebay, you cant send money orders anymore without feeling scared, theyd say its missing or lost, when its really not. ebay, since its so big, has created that fear and also aided in th development of these criminals.

since ebay began to about 1998, it was almost 100% personal check and money order. there was less scamming then than now. the electronic payments seems like a curse. it does help speed up sales and the extra revenue due to that was what helped jump start that.. we essentially created what we have. time to live with it

Re: Need some advice guys re: Ebay

Ok, guys. My ebay auction is over, but I believe the highest bidder (by $10, totalling $910) is a scam artist. He wants me to send the product to Nigeria (like that's going to happen), and he just created the ebay account today so he has zero feedback.

The second highest bidder has very positive feedback, and seems to be an active buyer of ebay merchandise and placed a bid of $900.

Any advice on what I should do? I have the option of Second Chance Offer or something, but I'm not quite familiar with the ramifications involved with this (legally, for instance). Can I simply refuse to send the product to the high bidder and make a second chance offer to the 2nd highest bidder? And if that person refuses, can I still use the second chance offer to go down the list of bidders (from highest to lowest until I see any takers)? Any legal problems that might arise from simply refusing to do business with the high bidder and going to the next-highest?

Also, what's the procedure I should go through once I do find a taker? Do I ask him for payment through Paypal first? And how do I verify actual payment through PayPal?

                bump.

I really need some advice guys. By the way, since the buyer's a scammer and I want to make the second chance offer do I alert Ebay about it? What should I do to make that work? Report as an unpaid item first before making the second chance offer?

You should be able to do second chance offer from your MyEbay section.

Send the email the Nigerian scammer sent you to [email protected]. His account will be deleted by eBay when they find out about him.

I would then offer a second chance offer to the 2nd bidder. It is selectable from the dropdown list on the right of the item.

You could give the Nigerian scammer negative feedback, though he might do the same, as he won't be deleted immediately.

Actually, he's gone now. His account is no longer registered on ebay.

By the way, thanks a lot, I really do appreciate the advice. I'll make the second chance offer to the second highest bidder.

                        It's always Nigeria or Indonesia.

I hate scammers. Had a big PayPal/eBay problem last year because someone broke into my e-mail.

Oh and by the way make sure you are Pay Pal vertified as well. You can do this by entering a credit card into the database that is the same as the addres you entered on Pay Pal.

And never ever click on links inside email from PayPal or eBay e-mails unless you are 100% sure it is from them.

Is it possible to make other Second Chance Offers to other bidders if the 2nd highest bidder is no longer interested? And if you make second chance offers to multiple bidders, is the buy it now price the same for all of them or does it match their highest bid, and whoever confirms the purchase first gets the item?
