I actually had to use one due to me not being able to go back to the county. The ticket was $10 for driving 80 in a 70, but the court fees on the ticket were $200. The lawyer got it thrown out due to improper equipment, but I still had to pay court fees. He was actually paid through my father's union. Go unions!

It didn't affect my insurance one dime. It's all a racket anyways. Why else is the official "fine" for the offense $10, but the fees are $200? I didn't even have to show the court or anyone that I actually had improper equipment, or that I did anything to fix it.
Same thing happened to me twice. I've got stopped for two tickets and got a lawyer who's a friend of the family *and played basketball with his son* to get me out of my two tickets. He just told me to pay a fee to him, and improper equipment will be the charge, and I won't even have to show up to court.

I think if its your first, they will usually drop the points and you will just pay the fine if you go to court. That is what happened with my first ticket, maybe its different now.

          And you're in NJ?

Your insurance is going to sky rocket. I'm shocked you didn't get reckless op. You should be able to waive the ticket not sure on the NJ speeding ticket laws.

You've really got to try to get a speeding ticket in NJ. It's a worthy accomplishment.

All I got was speeding in excess of 30-34MPH. I have no experience with tickets, so I don't know the process. I did find out that a 30+MPH over is a 5 point offense. That would suck. Anyone with experience in NJ know how this goes?

I'm not worried about the insurance because supposedly wiht Allstate they waive the first offense or something like that.

Good luck on them waiving that. A minor offense, or an accident sure, they aren't waiving a 5 point violation. If they do, they are insane.

5 points, is gonna be a pretty substantial increase to your insurance.

EDIT - just on Allstate's site, they waive the first ACCIDENT. You're f'd

I should have seen him. I was on the parkway, and in the fast lane, this car was going the speed limit, so I switch to the middle, and speed up, and then switch to the left. Cop was in plain view up ahead, when he moved up, I knew I was screwed.

5 point is most likely to serious to waive.

What did you piss the cop off or something?

No. In NJ a 30-34MPH over is a 5point offense it seems.

You were paying what? $300 a month now in car insurance?

I would say you're looking at a $100 a month increase in NJ.

Most cops will give you a break, especially if you have a clean record, that is why I asked if you pissed him off.

I was hoping he would, but since it was so much over, knew my chances were slim.

And EG, when we switched to AllState they said first offense, I'm hoping that's the case. BTW, it's like $230 on the car I have now.

First offense or not, I would hope no cops would cut a break for someone going 30-40 over the limit.
