That's why I got a lawyer. Paid around $200, my record is clear. Didn't have to pay the $120 ticket or go to traffic school. It was a win/win situation.

Just go to court and explain what happened. Even if the cop shows up, you can usually get the judge to reduce the ticket. When I was younger I had 3-4 speeding tickets within a few year period. I took all of them to court and every single one of them was reduced and the points were eliminated (there's a point system in PA and a certain number means you lose your license). Only thing it cost me was time and paying the reduced ticket amount.
I see absolutely no reason to hire a lawyer. Why pay a lawyer money to try to get you off when you can do so yourself? Instead of paying a ticket, you wind up paying lawyer fees.
All you have to do is go to court, dress nice, be respectful and the ticket will likely be reduced. Pretty simple.Comment

Whatever you do, don't do what I did...
2 tickets over 100mph (128 in a 55 and 107 in a 55), 7 under 100, unsafe starting, excessive acceleration (didn't even know that was an offense until I got it), exhibition of speed, you name it.
Yeah, my street racing days did a number on my rap sheet when I was a kid. I ignored them all. Failure to appear on each and every one. Eventually I got stopped again and picked up on a warrant...ended up paying something like $5,500 years later.
Suck it up, pay the fine, and try and learn from it.

Like a lot of people have said...just show up for court, and if you have no offenses prior it will get reduced. Judges kinda want those cases over and done with, because it's clogging up the court system.President of the Devils Den

What is all of this talk about "your record?" Speeding, at least at the original poster's level, is a violation, not a misdemeanor or felony. Now, at Terry's level ...
The original poster's speeding violation will produce points on his license and an insurance rate increase, not something on a criminal record.
Just show up to court, and the penalty probably will be reduced. Go to traffic school, and that will help even further.

Yeah, I was out of control. I even had an '88 Honda Hurricane 1000 that was factory race prepped that never lost. I was going down a 2-lane highway between here and Fresno, speedometer was at 176 but I was still twisting the throttle. I have no idea how far I got it, since my eyes got oblongated and my helmet was wanting to tear my head off in the wind, and I was cruising down a double-yellow divider into oncoming traffic at almost 200mph. I never got a ticket on my bikes, though. At one point I saw a CHP getting on the freeway, turned on his lights...I dropped it to 5th and gunned it, and I could just see his lights turn off. They'd rather let you go, call ahead, and not have you kill yourself so I used that to my advantage. It was like some bizarre traffic mission impossible; had my garage door opener in my leathers, I'd zip around and pop it at the end of my street, pull in and shut it like the bat cave.
My problem was highway racing and dragging in my car. Funny part of all of my traffic infractions: on the two that I was supposed to be taken to jail on (the 2 over 100), I was racing 1 or more cars, and each time one of them was a DUI. So they let me go and called in a partner to deal with the drunk.
Yeah...I should be dead now. Good news is I haven't had a ticket in like 10 years, and I downgraded cars to something that won't go faster than a tricycle. My wife's a smart woman :y4:.Comment

I had a 110 in a 55 drag racing in 98. Then had one for drag racing and reckless driving. Sold all the fast cars and had no tickets for 5 years but I got 2 this year.............my last two make ticket # 14 and 15 since I have been driving. My lawyer sends me a Christmas card every year. :y4:
