    Re: Ebay Help

Giving back a little money to help is probably not a bad idea. I know people above said it is, but there is such a thing in this world as kindness. Which a lot of people seem to not have.

Anyway - I'd say to not refund the item. Especially after how he asked. He could have asked if he could return it; but instead told you he was and pretty much demanded it. Although his words weren't rude, his actions were. It is his problem, and legally you don't have any obligation to refund it.

Still, the guy should know about the customs. His loss.

Obviously if he can't pay customs, he can't afford the system. He should've waited until he could buy one in the store for $600. I wouldn't refund ****! Obviously if he can't pay customs, he can't afford the system. He should've waited until he could buy one in the store for $600. I wouldn't refund ****! As the seller, it wouldn't be my problem. It's not Bergie's problem. This is just a classic case of someone who could pay for an item but can't really afford it. There is a difference and as you get older, you'll learn to differentiate between the two. Not to mention, like CJ said, he should no the customs.

I hope I never buy anything from you if there's a problem. I'd hate to deal with someone that's THAT hardheaded. While I agree the buyer should've looked into the customs tax Bergie should at least explain that it was the buyer's responsiblity to look into that and say "sorry but i'm not going to refund your money" but then maybe give the guy a pittance (50 bucks or somethin) just to show that there's no hard feelings.

Of course i'm not just going to say, i'm not refunding your money without giving him the reason. You and I would have no problem as i'm sure you'll do your due diligence before bidding on my product. this guy should've done his. Hell, I don't even bid on anything that's not listed domestically, just to avoid these types of things. $50 is not going to make the buyer happy and hard feelings are unavoidable unless he gets his money back more than likely.

True, and yes i'd do my due dilligence when it comes to electronics/anything that needs to be boxed up.

You're probably right as well. I was just trying to think of a way to soften the inevitable hard feelings and such.

I think a friendly email stating that you understand where he's coming from but have already spent the money and therefore cannot process a refund is what this situation calls for.

I don't know but a good guess would be

                        1. Electronics
                        2. Weight
                        3. The fact that it's BRAND NEW and hard to find in stores

Again just educated guesses on my part.

I never shipped anything to canada, but that seems excessive. 'Customs Fees' are taxes, so they must not like that it is basically an import from japan, since that's how it got to the US.

and I didn't see it posted, but ebay has this in their policy.

Kindness is one thing but this guy is buying something that he doesn't need and he already overpaid for it. He should've known what would happen with customs.

Why should he have to pay someone for their ignorance? If he was sending something that he actually needed but he couldn't afford then I could see but this is a video game system. He could've waited, there was no need to pay over $600 and not know that he would have to pay a tax, especially since he lives in canada.

Well I appreciate everyone's help. I emailed the guy and politely told him that I was sorry that he wasn't aware of customs but I didn't feel that was a reason to reverse the transaction. He didn't make a fuss or anything and thanked me for responding and picked up the package today. I am interested to see what kind of feedback he gives me now though.
