I left home when I was 18 and went to Auburn for college. After college I got married. So I guess my answer is 18.

Re: When Did You First Move Out On Your Own?
technically, I moved out when I went to college as I never spent any significant amount of time home after graduated high school. I was always in my school's city, Hattiesburg, MS, either working or in summer school. I really would say I all the way out after I graduated college. So, 18.Last edited by SoMiss2000; 12-08-2006, 11:04 AM."Never trust a big butt and a smile."-Ricky Bell

Re: When Did You First Move Out On Your Own?
I moved out at 18 for school at UNCW. Once I graduated, because I already had a job there, I stayed in Wilmington (about 200 miles from home).
It's not really THAT bad, living on your own. You just have to be smart with the little money you'll have, that's all. Ramen Noodles and Kool-Aid are your friend.
A great part-time job to have while in school and on your own would be delivering pizza. That's what I did...and every night, I'd go home with at least $50 in my pocket, just from working from 5 to around 9pm. Granted, gas didn't cost as much back then...but we were compensated for mileage.
It's not impossible to make it on your own...and I'm actually grateful for the experience. It really taught me a lot about saving money, being smart with it, and not overspending.Comment

Re: When Did You First Move Out On Your Own?
weddings are the biggest wastes of money than anything. You'd be better off going to the JOP and then having a nice reception. anyone that's had a wedding, myself included, will tell you that. This option is getting pretty popular."Never trust a big butt and a smile."-Ricky Bell

Re: When Did You First Move Out On Your Own?
There were numerous times throughout our engagement that we considered just effing it all and going to Vegas. Monetary issues ended up causing us way too much stress, time, and, well, money, obviously. We paid for roughly 85% of our rehearsal dinner, wedding and reception out of our own pocket, getting a little here and there from our respective parents, which in the end, didn't prove to be that significant.
But, I wouldn't go back and do it over any differently. Had we simply ran off to Vegas or the JOP and had a big reception dinner later, I'm sure at some point in my life, I would greatly regret that. Instead, I don't have any second thoughts about how much money we spent, how many tears were shed, or how much tension it all caused between our respective families because of money. Not to mention, the weekend of our wedding was the last time I got to see and spend time with my mother.
Waste of money? Absolutely not.Last edited by BGarrett7; 12-09-2006, 01:42 PM.Comment

Re: When Did You First Move Out On Your Own?
I've always wanted to get married at my church, and the JOP just never factored into our decsion. Just want to get married at the same place my parents, and grandparent's all got married at. It's something that's close to my heart and special. Plus I have a crap load of relatives and want to share our day with them as well.President of the Devils Den
