Re: When Did You First Move Out On Your Own?

I'm 24, just out of college, and still living at home. I have a job and am able to invest/save my money instead of spending it on rent and bills. I love it, and while I do want to move in the not too distant future, I get along really well with my parents, and thus am in no rush to.

I moved out when I was 20... was actually paying all bilsl I had since I was 17 when I first got a job except "rent". So, moving out was pretty easy financially for me because there was only two or three additional expenses. Though, after I setup my 401K plan at work I have been thinking about dabbing into some Stafford Loans to pay for the rest of school and to place a higher percentage of my paychecks into the 401 K.

Oh yeah, I love my parents as well but I just felt it was time for me to have a place of my own.

I moved out the day after I graduated high school. 17 years old.

I bought a house when I was 25. I really couldn't deal with living with any room mates. I would suggest buying a small house over an apartment if you can afford it.

I moved out on my own when I graduated college at 22. I moved in with 2 friends of mine, and eventually another friend moved in with us about 3-4 months later. We found a place that we rented for only $1050 a month. But one of the guys was going to grad school and I was working in a warehouse, not making much. So we were always behind on the rent. But luckily the landlord we knew well and he let us slide. It can be tough at times.

That's precisely what my situation is as well........... I do have to give a small amount of money a month to the household ($100/mo.), but basically you echoed what my situation is........

Imma try to do some taxes this season for some extra money and also to see if doing taxes is something I'd like to do for a "side hustle" when I get older. Though I have heard of some people who can just work tax season and make enough money to not work from May through December, you have to work years to get to that point, plus I'll be only part time at the tax place, so I know I wouldn't have it like that for quite some time, if at all.

I started paying my own rent in July of this year and it is not fun. I have a decent paying job, but I have soo many bills to pay.

Well I just graduated college when I was 22, where I lived with roommates in off campus apartments. I moved out on my OWN after graduation and live in San Jose. Been here for about 6 months and it's cool. I pay way too much. My rent is about $1800 a month, plus all my bills, so basically over $2000 a month. That's the pain about living in California, but having my own freedom is worth every penny.

Sometimes it gets lonely since I'm here by myself, but then I think about the horror stories I had with my roommates in college and it gets much better

Re: When Did You First Move Out On Your Own?

I lived in the dorms the first year of school, but then moved into a little house that was almost on campus my second year of college. I was 19 at that point, but I trusted one of my friends from football into living with a guy I barely knew and two girls I did not know. He vouched for them, but the whole situation was a mess. There was a rift in the house between those who lived upstairs and those who lived in the basement. Wasn't a terrible deal but not really ideal living circumstances.

Last year I lived in an apartment with 4 other guys and this year I'm in a duplex with 5 other guys. Rent is cheap this year, which is nice because I'm going to be moving into a townhouse with my girlfriend next year and it will be more expensive. I'm really looking forward to being more on our own rather than living with a lot of roommates. College living is nice for having friends around pretty much all the time, but the cramped living quarters and messiness aren't great.

You're lucky my mom, won't do anything like that. It's just like what Chris Tucker said, "when you're in school you're the baby but the minute you turn 18 you're just that *edit* walking around the house".

I think that more and more people will smarten up and stay at home until they can afford to buy their own house. You can cripple your financial future being stupid in your early 20's.

I'm a Jr in college...Hopefully this is the last year I live in the dorms. I'm gonna work 2 jobs this summer and stack my paper so I can' rent an apt in the fall. I'm so sick of having weird roommates every year....
