My thoughts and prayers go out to you and yours, coffee. As well as everyone else who has posted in this thread about a parent's death.
I went through my own trouble this past summer, when my father lost his battle with alcoholism and committed suicide. He fought some demons, but did the best he could when he took custody of my younger brothers. My mom was deemed unfit to take care of them because of drug and alcohol abuse.
Now that my dad is gone, I have custody of two brothers (I'm 24, they're 16 and 10).
Long story short, I know exactly how some of you feel, because I never got the chance to say goodbye either. I hadn't seen my dad for three weeks before his death while he was on one of his binges.
Again, my deepest condolences to you coffee and to the rest of the OS family who have gone through it.
