>>Is something like Gatorade really that bad for you because of all the sugar? I drink Gatorade after I finish doing weightlifting/conditioning up at the school. Is that bad or should I just drink only water?<<

My dad had some heart problems and the doctor made him lay off the Gatorade. Said it was liquid diabetes.

BTW there are some great tips in this string. Just motivates me all the more. We have a small gym at the station but it's packed with good stuff. I think all the doughnut jokes motivate most of us. I always say the new "dougnut" shops of the 2000's are health snack shops. Every night I always stop somewhere to get a water and powerbar.

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.

can you guys recommend some healthy meal and snack ideas for someone on a tight budget? I eat a lot of oranges/apples and light yogurt....after that I have a hard time coming up with stuff at home. I cook chicken too but get sick of it after a while because its basically the only real meal I do for dinner.
Turkey sandwiches on wheat bread sometimes too....

But honestly I am constantly hungry and need some ideas that won't break my wallet and hopefully arent too hard to make.

How about Quaker Instant Grits/Oatmeal.....is it ok to eat one or two of those a day? They are like 110 calories, 25g of Carbs, 10% sodium...I'm trying to slim down a little

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.

Here's a dish I LOVE to make...

It makes 3-4 servings, depending on how you split it up.

Ingredients:
A package of ground turkey (~1.2 lb). You want 99% lean, but if you have to, use the 93% lean. Pretty good difference in price.
2 can of condensed tomato soup
1 can of corn
1 can of green beans
1 can of black beans

Directions:
Cook all of the ground turkey on a pan (stovetop). Make sure to chop it up into small pieces. Tear pieces off then put them in the skillet and then chop them up with a spatula while they cook. When the turkey is fully cooked, put it in a bowl or something and let it be for a couple minutes. Next step is to put the 2 cans of tomato soup in the pan and just move it around a minute. Then you add the corn, black beans, and green beans. You mix them all up until you think they're good. Then you pour in the ground turkey and mix it all up and it should be good.

I love this dish. I encourage you all to give it a try!

I used to drink Gatorade as a beverage even if I wasn't working out. I'd buy the powder to mix my own. I was drinking close to 8L a day of the stuff. That's when I started having major chest pains. I would wake up in the night and feel sharp stabbing pains to my heart.
I saw the doctor and he told me to only drink it when I'm working out. It's very high in sodium and he felt that was what caused it. As soon as I stopped abusing the drink, I had no more problems.

Thanks stewaat, I think I'll try this tonight. Is there a brand of corn or beans that you recommend? I'm a rookie when it comes to buying those ingredients. I'll let you know how it goes.

I usually get Del Monte (corn/green beans)I believe, the no salt added type. I forget what black beans I get. They have a blue label, Busch's I think.

Powdered gatorade isn't nearly as bad for you as opposed to the normal bottled stuff. The bottled stuff is essentially like drinking a Coke. There isn't nearly as much sugar in the powder.

Powered stuff isn't great if you aren't working out either, I use a scoop of whey and a scoop of gatorade powder for my pre/post workout drink. Besides that I never drink the stuff.

Man stewaat, I made a disgrace out of your recipe! First I realized I had tomato SAUCE not condensed soup right when I was ready to pour it into the pan. I'm not even sure what the difference and I just decided to use it anyway, just one can since it was real thin. Then my can opener broke and I still had to figure out how to open the beans and corn, this turned into a long, messy, disaster. I finally got it all in the pan though and more or less had to pour myself a bowl of it....

It was interesting, more of a soup really. Not terrible tasting. I'll have to do it again the right way sometime. And I have probably 4 or 5 more servings left in the fridge now.

Oh no man, that sucks. I'm telling you though, if you use the right stuff I haven't had anybody tell me they haven't liked it.

Sounds like quite an adventure. And yes, the mistaking tomato sauce for tomato soup is a HUGE difference. My mixture is nothing like a soup and I use two cans of condensed soup. It has the composition of a casserole.

I use a spatula to scoop out everything out of the pan after I'm done. There is never any pouring. By the way I didn't tell you I just do it on the stove top. I'm pretty sure you did that too, but just saying.

I'm just gonna post my routine here and see what comments I can get on it. I started doing this in high school as it was our football program, and this program has won a state championship, so I thought it was good.

Mon - Upper body heavy (3 sets) Flat bench, decline bench, incline dumbbells, triceps, biceps, military press, lat pull-downs, pullover, pecs
Tues - Lower body heavy (3 sets) Squats, power cleans, calf extension, quads, hamstrings, lunges, dead lift
Wed - Partial upper body light (4-5 sets) Decline bench, incline dumbbells, triceps, biceps
Thurs - Partial upper body light (4-5 sets) Flat bench , military press, lat pull-downs, pullover, pecs
Fri - Partial lower body light (4-5 sets) Squats, calf extension, lunges, dead lift
Sat - Partial lower body light (4-5 sets) Power cleans, quads, hamstrings
Sun - OFF

I also do 4-5 sets of 8 plyo boxes every day, along with sprints on M-W-TH (upper body days).

I like my W-Th and Fri-Sat upper/lower body back-to-back, because I do not do the same exercises twice in a row, and it allows me plenty of time to get my full 5 sets in of every exercise. I do 6-8 reps of every exercise regardless of how many sets I am doing.

I have two questions that I'd love for someone knowledgable to answer:

1. Last April I had a goal set for me in bench press that I thought was a bit of a stretch. Regardless I worked towards it and now I am 25 pounds away (1 rep maxout). My question is, is it feasible to expect to add 25 lbs. to a 1 rep maxout by August 1st?

2. Does anyone have any suggestions for other lifts I could do to work muscle groups I am currently not working, or to improve my bench/squat/clean (the 3 lifts I care most about)? Any help would be great.

What creatine should I get?

I have been using Anavar, and it is almost out.

My buddy suggested Anavol. I am also going to order the 100% Casein (what flavor?). But what kind of regular protein should I get? I have heard Nitro-Tech Hardcore is good?

My buddy also recommended No-Xplode.
