So I've been eating protein bars after lifting for the past week now, but I'm now wondering is they are going to be bad since I'm also trying to lose stomach fat. Are they bad for fat or do you think they would be ok to eat after lifting?

You won't gain weight unless you eat more calories than you burn. Make sure you eat a protein bar that is moderate in cals (~200). Don't eat a meal replacement bar...they are packed with sugar and sometimes fat.Comment

Check the label on whatever protein bar you're eating. Chances are it's loaded with sugar and high fructose corn syrup. 99% of protein bars aren't all that great for you. Better than a Snickers, yeah, but not something that should be a regular part of your diet."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

^^^^ Yeah for something that is supposed to be considered "healthy" some of them are absolutley loaded with sugar.
Apprarently you can make you own and there are some recipes floating around the net that turn out decent. I once tried making a chocolate protein cake recipe i found on the web and it was the most disgusting thing i have ever tasted.Comment

Bars are the devil. They are basically candy bars. Leave them alone man. Look at the labels and notice how much sugar they haveConcrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.
In all honesty processed simple sugar is the main reason our culture is full of overweight people.
BTW eating "low fat" is very, very expensive! I'm on a high fat diet and it's so much cheaper! I eat 10 eggs a day and that costs $1.00!!! 18 eggs are $1.68 at Wal-Mart.
My low-fat cheese (I just love the taste) is $0.25 per slice!
Spinach leaves are close to $3 a bag!
1lb of ground beef (80% lean) is $2.80
Eggs are pretty much the cheapest, most perfect food you can eat. All those "eggs are going raise your cholesterol" claims are bogus as well. I eat all 10 egg yolks and want you guys to know the nutrients of the egg are located in the yolk. Eating just egg whites is fine, but you're missing out on the best parts of the egg.
BTW I found the way to not cheat on my diet.
Here's my "treat":
2 squares of 85% Lindt Extra Dark Chocolate
~1 tbsp of Jiff PB spread on top of the Lindt
It tastes awesome and is only about 200 cals. It also adds some much needed fiber to my diet and the extra carbs really don't hurt me at all. I probably have this snack twice a day...might have 3 squares after dinner if I'm feeling hungry.Last edited by Guest; 11-10-2008, 12:00 PM.Comment

You want to avoid bread? Even whole wheat bread? Because I basically eat that every morning.

Pasta and bread are pretty much the same thing so you've completely contradicted yourself.
Things you want to avoid:
High fat & high carb products
Processed carbs which have zero nutritional value (white bread, sugar, crackers, chips)
Things you want to eat varies greatly
Things you want to drink:
Some juicie, sparingly

You're good with 100% WW bread. It's more nutritional and filling than plain white bread. Also I like the taste better.Comment

Thanks for gettin him Stewaat.
Forreal forreal, I avoid juice at all costs. I would rather get the whole fruit in me (no MomentoCeltic).
I only use Orange Juice when I am making fruit shakes. Which I drink 4 times a weak. Blender, Ice, Fruit, Preserves for sweetening. Good stuff.
But yea he just didn't know, hopefully he learned somethingConcrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

I'm thinking of shifting towards a high fat diet like steewat. What do your meals usually look like now stee? (I know you've prob. posted this before, but I want to see if you have done anything different)Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, Arsenal FC, Wildcats, Vols

Honestly I'm a weird person who can eat the same thing over and over...here's my cutting diet right now:
Breakfast:
5 scrambled eggs, 1 slice cheese
Lunch:
1lb 80% lean ground beef browned and some of the fat is drained. I put in 1/2 bag of spinach leaves and throw on two slices of cheese. I season the ground beef as well.
Dinner:
1 salmon fillet
5 scrambled eggs, 1 slice cheese
Drinks:
WATER!
When I workout I drink Xtend (BCAAs)
Snacks:
Lindt 85% very dark chocolate with some Jiff peanut butter
~2 squares + 1 tbsp of PB = 190-200 cals *Probably have this twice a day (After lunch/dinner)
*TRULY helps with fiber intake because the lack of whole grains might limit a certain daily function. This has helped DRAMATICALLY and it keeps me from eating junk food. Perfect balance!
I might start adding one scoop of protein to my diet after I lift.
Works for me and I don't get tired of eggs or ground beef. Salmon is another story...Comment
