AA... don't mean to keep asking questions man.. but how long do you recommend going between each day lifting... I guess, what kind of recovery period? Say if I do Triceps/Biceps tonight... should I give them 24hrs... 48hrs... what?

48 hours is the golden rule.

I train heavy so I usually train each bodypart once a week..sometimes twice.

If I'm trying to "cut up" in the spring...I'll still lift relatively heavy but I'll do more "compound" exercise..i.e. exercises involving more muscle groups simultaneously to increase the amount of calories I'm burning.

But yes...48 hours for a specific muscle group to recover is good.

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.

Alright... how about doing pushups, chinups, etc...

I worked my chest and shoulders last night, but is it still alright to do pushups like I am use to doing every day, or should I only do those on the days that I work those specific groups?

My lifting schedule looks sort of like this

        Day 1-Bi's/Tri's
        Day 2-Chest/Shoulders/Abs
        Day 3-Bi's/Tri's
        Day 4-Chest/Shoulders/Back
        Day 5-Bi's/Tri's
        Day 6-Full Body
        Day 7-Off

Of course I'm working legs in there as well, doing squats, lunges, etc... and doing cardio... but how would you group those to have a better quality workout?

WTF you don't do any strenth training for legs? I realize you probably do cardio daily but you still need to strenth train legs also.

          This is my training schedule
          Chest and triceps
          Cardio
          Back and biceps
          Cardio
          Shoulders and legs
          Cardio

I just keeping alternating between strenth training and cardio. In a six day period I have strength trained the entire body and done 3 days of cardio (20 to 30 minutes) then start the cycle over again on the seventh day. I also do crunches everyday. Usually 50 after my workout and 50 before I go to bed.

The problem is not exercising but watching what I eat. I love to eat so it makes it difficult.

Yeah, I do squats, lunges (diagonal, forward, lateral), leg press when I am at the gym... and of course cardio... I'm really just beginning to get some muscle mass back in my legs finally... it's taken years just to see some of it come back.

Not to mention i'd look like a douche benching the bar next to a guy with 4 50lb weig

Are there any full body workouts you can do without equipment? I'd rather not have to buy a gym membership, or personal equipment.

I'm short on money, and not to mention i'd look like a douche benching the bar next to a guy benching 400lbs.

You could try bodweight exercises such as pushups, pullups, handstand pushups, burpees and weightless squats.

Before I started working out with weights I would simply do situps, pushups and chinups every night. It did help.

And I understand your concerns about 'looking like a douche', but even those guys doing 400lbs started out by benching 125 lbs.
And I'm not sure where you live but at the gyms I've attended there has only been a handful of guys that were doing 'serious' weight when bench pressing. I've seen way more guys benching 130 than 330 or even 200.

99% of the guys at my gym that are benching over 225 are (a) doing it for show, (b) doing about 4 reps and (c) not getting much out of it. I'd rather put up 175 for 5 sets and give myself a nice workout than try to put up 300 once or twice for show.

about weightlifting. i just started after a two month break and after my first day of doing what i normally do, i was sore for about 5 weeks. Id hate to go slow and not get much out of it. is that extreme soreness normal and is it unhealthy?

                      thanks

If you took 2 months off, you could work out for 10 minutes and be sore for 2 days. You have to ease back into it a bit but you will be very sore no matter what after a long layoff. 5 weeks seems a bit extreme lol.

the soreness should subside, right? its to a point where im so sore that I never seem to gain anything. its like workout once a week, then break because im sore, then try to work out again but im forced to do less. I never should have quit to begin with. this sucks

It will go away. It shouldn't take too long to feel normal again. If you are sore for 5 days I will just say you overdid yourself. Cut back your sets so you aren't so sore as you seem to be killing yourself. Listen to your body - its screaming "you're killing me!" If you are sore for more than 1 or 2 days, you might be overdoing it.
