Re: Anyone have experience with the nursing field
I'm a 3rd year med student, so obviously I see a lot of nurses. There still aren't that many full male nurses yet, but I always see a bunch of male nursing students, and they've all been good guys.
You gotta have some thick skin though because I know they all get jabbed at for being a nurse......but its a great job.
If you're looking for other areas of the health field, being an EMT or paramedic is a great job if you want to be on the frontlines and like the adrenaline rush from stressful situations like that."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

Pretty Much a nurse is topping out at 75,000 a yr in big cities. Thats enough for some people I guess."Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

The hospital where I work helps pay for your school as long as you work there once you get out and if you can get into a department like the ER and work for a while that gives you a big time in while you're trying to get started as a nurse.Favorite Teams:

Re: Anyone have experience with the nursing field
Not to mention never having to ever worry about having to search for a job, excellent health insurance, and 35-40 bucks a hour...I'm not complaining at all. Not only that like jerk I love helping people. Money isn't everything. It helps but if you don't live beyond your means doesn't matter if 75,000 is low balling in your eyes.President of the Devils Den

Re: Anyone have experience with the nursing field
A good in for working in the ER is to become an ER Tech, basically a CNA but with a little more responsibility (you do EKGs, catheters, etc.), I do that at the hospital where I work while I'm getting ready to get into nursing and a few of my coworkers are further in. One of them is finishing up nursing school (in his final semester) and they're letting him go straight from ERT up to RN once he graduates, right now hes actually moved up from ERT to student nurse intern, then after this semester ends he'll go onto orientation then he'll be an RN in the ER right off the bat.

I wish I could do ER Tech, but they don't offer that at G-W *Gardner Webb* at the satelitte school in Statesville. They do at other surrounding schools *and the main campus I believe*, but I like my professors here. That does sound like a excellent in though. Iredell where I work at is doing that for me too next semester as far as paying for my school. Thank god! I'm tired of being broke for 2-3 weeks after tuition is payed.President of the Devils Den
