    Wisdom Teeth/Dentist Question

So my wisdom teeth are coming in. I go to the dentist this morning and he says that the difficulty of taking them out is in the "high 90's out of a 1-100 scale". FANTASTIC. Anyway, my top two are coming in at 45 degree angles. Has anybody had wisdom teeth come in that bad?

Also, he said that he wouldn't put me under. So I'm going to be awake the whole time. Is that a good idea? Anybody who I've talked to said that they were put under. Now, I'm a little worried. Should I go to another dentist?

With wisdom teeth they don't typically put you under as it's not a major procedure. They put you in something called "Twilight Sleep". I was worried about the same thing when I had mine out many years ago, but don't remember one thing. I haven't heard anyone who does remember anything after being put in "Twilight Sleep" and is probably why your friends thought they were out, but really weren't. Here's more info about it:

General anethesia is when they put you completely out. I had that once and it's not much fun and is much riskier as some patients have problems waking up from it.

Mine weren't bad so I can't really comment on that. Relatively painless from my experience.

Man up, just go for the laughing gas. I didn't get put under, just got some Novocaine and then was put on laughing gas throughout the surgery. I never felt any pain throughout the process or after it was all said and done.

Getting my wisdom teeth out was a piece of cake, but not everyone is the same. Some people say it's painful, others like me say it was a breeze. One bonus of laughing gas is that everything seems to go in slow motion. It was just a cool experience to be under laughing gas. Plus, I'll never forget the feeling of my arm floating away during the surgery. I kept putting it under the bib(whatever it is) around my neck, hoping it wouldn't float away on me.

Be weary of the pills they give you though. Every time I took one, I felt dizzy and lightheaded. I even fell over a couple times while trying to walk. And I had constant drooling after the surgery. I couldn't keep my mouth closed(it was numb) and I just drooled blood all over my coat.

I believe I was put under when I got my wisdom teeth taken out. I remember their being a charge for the anesthesia(sp?) also. Mine teeth were impacted, but they weren't hard to take out at all. I suggest seeing another dentist and getting their opinion on it.

I was put out cold when I had all four wisdom teeth removed at once. Took nearly two hours, as the oral surgeon said my roots were so deep that he jokingly was looking for the crowbar or the sledgehammer to remove the teeth.

Damn I am lucky, at 36 all 4 of my wisdom teeth are not impacted nor need removing. I still have all 4 LOL.

I had all 4 removed about 4 years ago. They put me out, took about 30 minutes. Just a little needle in your arm and count back from 10. Woke up feeling drunk as a skunk and went home to sleep for a few hours.

I believe that's "Twilight Sleep". I'm pretty sure that's what the needle in the arm was (intravenous). I didn't remember anything either when they did that to me.

I've only been completely out once (surgery for a hernia). I had general anesthesia and that's when a professional anesthesiologist has to come in and do it. Cost $18,000 just for the person to put me out. LOL. Price is another reason general anesthesia is rarely done unless the surgery is somewhat major. I believe they put some mask over my face and the breath in the gases (I was sedated so don't really remember exactly). Next thing I know I was waking back up and could taste the gases in my mouth. Tasted horrible.

The other type is local anesthesia. They inject something into the tissue surrounding the area being worked on.

I'm worried about it. I'm getting it done during Spring Break (worst Spring Break ever).

I remember the feeling of anasthesia from my nasal surgery. Damn that was a weird feeling. All I remember after being put out in the OR is feeling really tired, having trouble putting my clothes on, being put in a wheelchair to get wheeled to the door, somehow getting in the car, and sleeping the whole way hope, being very angry about having to wake up and move into the house.

I might be getting mine pulled this spring break. I want to be out and gone during the surgery if it happens.

Its fine as long as you don't wake up in the middle of it like my cousin. Now that sucks.
