    Coffee break!

As you can see from the thread title and my screen name,I'm into coffee more than most people. It's my only "bad" habit. Nonetheless,my quest for the perfect cup of Java is never ending. Why I'm I telling you this? because I want to know what your favorite cup of beans is and where you get it. My go-to is the standard-Starbucks-all over the place and it usually tastes the same. But lately, other coffee drinkers been talking about other places-Such as Mavericks,Dunkin' Donuts and such. My favorite kind of coffee is from South America, medium roast. Light is not enough flavor. Bold is,well, too bold. The natural flavor and caffeine goes to heck when over-roasted. So,where do you go for joe? BTW-My kitchen is a mini Starbucks barista-that's where i normally have it,I buy it one bag at a time, and don't grind it till it's time for Coffee break!

    Re: Coffee break!

Coffee chains: Starbucks, preferrably something dark like French Roast or Kenya

Donut chains: Tim Hortons. Thankfully this Canadian powerhouse chain is coming to the Syracuse area very soon.

The most overrated coffee on the planet comes from Dunkin' Donuts. Absolute turd water, especially for its incredibly inflated price. Awful. It's like glorified Maxwell House.

My favorite off-the-shelf coffee is Folger's Normal Roast. Maxwell House is horrible, brown water. There's a small coffee manufacturer here in Syracuse called Paul de Lima that also makes a fine grind.

Lattes and cappuccinos are GAY. If you must mask your coffee with all of that sh*t, what's the point, especially at the exorbitant prices charged? I drink my coffee black -- no sugar, no cream, nothing. The closer it is to blacktop sealer, the happier I am -- as long as it's not bitter. I like a dark, dark roast.

I'm a lover of the bean. If I don't have two or three cups in the morning, I get a headache. That's a sure sign of a caffeine addiction, but I'm not fighting it.

I honestly drink it for the taste first, then the sensation. Same with beer.

    Take care,
    PK

Starbucks is okay but nothing beats a double-double from Timmy Ho's. There's one right down the street from where I live.

I also have 9 Starbucks within 10 minutes of my house.

Yeah, that is gettin' to be true almost everywhere now. Off the top of my head the number 1 crapola coffee award goes to Denny's. Good Lord, that stuff is like diluted transmission oil or something. I just don't get the Millstone coffee flavor,it sucks IMO. Denny's used Farmers Brand Coffee back in the day and it wasn't bad for decent taste while on a roadtrip.
We do have a Maverick's Coffeehouse out here, has anyone heard of that? they even ship all over the world and have about 30 different varieties to choose from. Their Kona coffee from Hawaii is in a league of it's own. But for about 20 bucks a pound,I'll wait for Xmas or something for that. I haven't heard of any of the other coffee places the other posters here mentioned,we don't have them yet I guess.

            Re: Coffee break!

I recently started drinking Folgers French Vanilla coffee and love it. I first picked up Folgers Custom Roast, which for some reason or another, made me feel ill even at the smell of it. I've never had a problem with any coffee really, but the smell of the custom roast just made my head spin. Who knows.

Anyways, i'd really recommend the French Vanilla blend. I've always loved anything french vanilla, so this is like a dream come true for me.

My favorite coffee as of right now is five to six scoops of Starbucks Sumatra in a 10 scoop coffeemaker. Coffee for me has to black and be so strong that it could eat thru the pot if I left it long enough.

I'm glad you posted this because I was about to send you a PM about your coffee preference. Right now, I use Starbucks Verona. It's already ground, and has a nice bold tast, but not too bold.

My wife is planning to get me a new coffee maker for my birthday this April. I have a few questions.

Which is a reasonable coffee maker?

What kind of water do you use when making coffee?

Do you refridgerate your coffe after opening?

What type of creamer do you use?

                Thanks, great subject!
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Of course this is subjective opinion-But I've drank this stuff forever and read books by coffee experts-here's my take. Coffeemaker-I've used em' all and the expensive one's are usually expensive crap. I dont need an illuminated clock to have good coffee. Look for one that can shoot a nice even spray from the top(many holes where the water goes into the basket). Water-depends on your tap water. If you have good tap,use it-if not-You could have water delivered. Water just depends on your own taste. Coffee in the frig-NO!-only buy enough for about a week at a time and keep it in a good, airtight tupperware or plastic/glass jar that seals good in a dark, room temperture place(cupboard is fine). Some won't agree about not using the frig, but moisture destroys the taste and "feel" of coffee. Also, when you rip open a bag,the clock is ticking on the beans life like a loaf of bread. So,buy small quantities-notice Starbucks only sells small bags? The best coffee IMO and most experts is coffee that has the name of the country it came from on the bag, such as Colombia, etc. Why? because the beans are not mixed with lesser quality beans from who knows where. In bold roasts and things like "French roast" it is a style, not a type and they use whatever bean is available. This was told to me by a Starbucks manager! With bold, the beans are burnt beyond belief and loses a good deal of flavor and body. The lighter the roast, the more REAL flavor you'll get and more of a wake up call. Oh,and don't buy ground coffee. Get a cheap grinder, and only grind what you will drink each time. The beans will retain flavor longer this way. Grinding releases the "taste" oils in coffee that degenerate quickly. My personal all time favorite coffee for flavor and goodness is-Starbucks Guatemala Antigua. Best flavor, great body, medium roast the wakes you up but doesn't kill you either. As for creamers or any additives-I pass on that. I believe that if the coffee is good,it doesn't need help. Bottom line:if you can find a coffee that tastes good, wakes you up without additives, you got a perfect cup for you coffee break! end of manifest. This is what works for me-I'm sure others won't agree with all my thoughts, which is fine. Peace.

I agree on the amount of scoops in the coffee maker, that really brings out the Starbucks signature. Sumatra is a good one too. Have you tried this-packing down the coffee in the coffeemaker before turning the switch on? I just take my measuring spoon/pack it good in there. it really makes a difference. The coffee now has to travel through more coffee and less air gaps in order to make it out -good stuff.

I'd like to put an add-on for the post I wrote on page 1 about making a great cup of coffee IMO. I said it isn't a good idea to put coffee in the frig. I stand by that still,but-I did read a article some time ago written by a coffee exporter. He did say it is o.k to freeze coffee providing you just use the amount you plan to brew(I don't do that myself)...
I also forgot to mention Costco and other large warehouse stores sells larger bags of coffee where you can save some money. In some cases it is even roasted by Starbucks with their own store/house name on it. It will say on the back if this is what the case is. Also,I'd say stay away from those whole bean containers in stores that let you get the amount you want out and bag yourself. If it isn't vacuum sealed, that's not good. I've made that mistake before and those beans went straight to the trash. I know... I'm obessed with coffee.....It's my hobby/my screen name says it all...And my goal is to never stop in my search for coffee nirvana!
