At least 16 Detroit houses up for sale on Sunday sold for $30,000 or less.

A boarded-up bungalow on the city's west side brought $1,300. A four-bedroom house near the original Motown recording studio sold for $7,000.

"You can't buy a used car for that," said Izairi. "It's a gamble, and you have to wonder how low it's going to get."

Detroit, where unemployment runs near 14 percent and a third of the population lives in poverty, leads the nation in new foreclosure filings, according to tracking service RealtyTrac.

With large swaths of the city now abandoned, banks are reclaiming and reselling Detroit homes from buyers who can no longer afford payments at seven times the national rate.

Michigan was the only state to see home prices fall in 2006. The national average price rose almost 6 percent but prices slipped 0.4 percent here, according to a federal study.

The state's jobless rate of 7.1 percent in January was also the second highest in the nation, behind only Mississippi.

That's just....sad.

TC is a very nice place. We seem to end up there a few times a year for a weekend. My wife use to work up there and it is pretty fun during the Wings Training camp. Seems like all of them end up at the bar on a nightly basis, all very approachable and will shoot the **** with everyone. Fun times.


Oh and remember this when looking for a place to eat....Red Mesa Grill + Shreaded Pork Burrito = Heaven

I am looking forward to that. We got a condo in Holiday Hills,about a half mile from the ski resort. I will be watching my wife and son bust their asses snowboarding from my innertube. We ate at Red Mesa twice last week. We also hit Boone's at Long Lake. Wow!! They serve a mean steak. See you this fall and we'll hoist a few with the Wings.

I was thinking real hard about moving to Halifax but I needed more work on my stump and needed to be near a VA Hospital for a very hard rehab. That is all done now,so off we go to Traverse City. I have been to NYC about 4 times in the last few months. I was as busy as a one legged man in an asswhipping contest.

I will PM you when I head that way this summer. I will also PM you my cell phone number. I would love to talk to you. I got issues brother. 9/11 issues,war wound issues,life issues. It's taken 6 years for everything to set in and my brain is having a hard time wrapping around all that's happened to me. I am not going to jump off a bridge,but my anger towards people is becoming a problem. I have no patence anymore. I need a laid back summer in Traverse City with my wife and son. No politics. No funerals. No watching kids with missing limbs trying to cope. I am fried. I know you have been where I am now and I want to pick your brain about it.
