    The official "OS Occupation" Thread.

I understand that some people might be a bit hesitant to put their actual workplace down, but what do you do for a living? If you're just working part-time, where at, or what are you doing?

I figured this would be interesting to do... and couldn't find an older thread (so forgive me if one exists).

Currently, I'm employed at FedEx... throwing boxes around for 4/5 hours for five nights a week. Not bad for a college job, as it pays pretty well.

    Re: What do you do?

Purchasing Manager for a window manufacturer in Chicago. I was going to culinary school in New York but had a terrible accident which left my dominant hand in cast for 8 weeks, still dont have full sensation in my ring and pinky fingers.

Needless to say I had to drop out and take this job, which is rewarding yet not as fufilling as a position in the culinary field. Hopefully I can go back to culinary school in the near future.

I work at my school. Students come in with problems regarding thier classes, probation, complaints, discipline issues, etc. Its a pretty easy job.

            Re: What do you do?

I worked at a movie theatre for four months, up until last week. I couldn't stand the job anymore, so I quit on the spot. I didn't even give them a two week notice; I just walked in and gave them my shirt and told them I was leaving.

I've been sick the past three days, so once I get healthy again, I plan on applying to some random stores around here.

                Re: What do you do?

Just a little advice Sucre, I know you couldn't stand it, but for future reference, I'd at least give a 2 week notice. Your future employers will probably look for a reference, and when they contact your old employer, that's not a good thing (just quitting w/ no notice). It makes a manager feel like you could just walk out at any time, which is not who people want to hire.

As for me, I go to school full time, I sale insurance/customer service at my father's insurance agency, and I work on computers/networks at night. Needless to say, I don't sleep much, but it pays the bills, and has me living comfortably, so I'm not complaining too much. When/if I get into the Police Academy, then I will be much more happy, to be in a career instead of a job.

I'm getting a second job over the summer... probably at a cheerleading gym.

Hold the jokes, I know a couple of (straight) guys there, and great looking girls go to the place. The manager told me he'd hook me up if I really wanted another job.

There were multiple reasons I quit. I had been on the verge of quitting since the day I got the job. Every Usher that worked there felt exactly the same way I did.

I got sick and tired of being understaffed every weekend. The movie theater I worked at was the only one in town, so we usually would get over 2,000 people each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So a total of 6,000 people for a weekend.

They would have four girls selling popcorn, soda, and candy at concession to those 2,000 people, and then have only one usher(usually me) clean up after them. How can you justify having all those girls selling food, and then only having one guy clean up after them?

I also couldn't stand the General Manager. I told him when I got the job that I couldn't work Thursday nights due to me having class early friday morning. So what does he do? Schedules me to do signs on Thursday nights, which would keep me at the theater until 12am. The first night I did signs, I was there till 2:10am, and I had a test at 8am.

They also made me clean the bathrooms after a guy **** all over the floor, wall, stall door.

I was going to give a two week notice. However, I went in to work last week, talked to the GM and told him I couldn't do signs this week, and he called me a pansy. This wasn't the first time he's called me a pansy either. I was working a double one night two months ago, and the usher who was supposed to work with me never showed up. I fell behind on the last showing, and called for some help. Called me a pansy and to do it myself.

I was sick of the way he was running it, so I decided the hell with it. The look on his face when I walked in the next day(two hours before I was supposed to start signs), when I told him I quit, was priceless.
