Re: What do you do?
I've got the best job in the entire world. I'm a Firefighter Paramedic.
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.Comment

Re: What do you do?
Good luck man!!! Hope you get it....Sr. Network Engineer at a finance company.
If all goes well, I'll be a Network Manager for another finance company in a few weeks or month. Very cool job that I interviewed for recently. I'd run a networking department with about 10 employees who would report to me. They have some archaic equipment running currently and one of my first jobs would be to get a plan together to upgrade the entire infrastructure.
PS - As far as giving 2 weeks notice. If it's a high school/college/temp job, I don't think it's a big deal to not give 2 weeks notice. If it's a career job, give 2 weeks notice. Future employers always want to talk to former employers. Every single interview form that I've filled out asks if they can contact former employers. Checking "No" is a huge red flag so try not to burn bridges with past employers because you want to check "Yes" in that box.
Oh, I haven't exactly quit a job in so long, I can't remember the last time I gave notice..LOL 7 1/2 years at my current job, 3 years at my job before that (I was laid off), so I was like 19 last time I quit somewhere... LOLComment

Re: What do you do?
Quiting is a "youthful" thing IMO. As you get older you have more bills and responsibilities. So you learn how to tough it out, or find another job before you bounce from the old one.The Sports Preacher

That's right, the older we get its much harder to walk away from a job especially when you have a family and bills. I'm going 6 1/2 years at the company I'm at.Comment

Re: What do you do?
I had 15 years working for a newspaper as a sales manager in circulation. That company started big time layoffs, so I applied and managed to get into law school, working still and going to school at night. I was 1/2 way through law school when I got laid off. Six months later I got a job as a law clerk in a private firm and they kept me on as an attorney after I graduated.
I stayed at that firm about another year. Then I took a job with New York State where I have been the last 7 years. Civil service suits me well. I like the job security, benefits and regular hours.Comment
