For anyone who has had their dog run away...

Any tips on how I can find it? I already notified the police and put in a report. Is there anything else I can really do besides waste gas and drive around?

Not really. Our dog ran away a couple of months ago and was sitting on the front porch an hour later. Hopefully the dog is smart enough to know what side its bread is buttered on.
    Good luck!

Worst feeling in the world man...I've been there.

Call the local vets and animal shelters. Put up signs on the mailboxes (if you have community ones like me). Recruiting some friends to drive around and waste gas with you improves your chances as well.

      Good luck!

If you have pics... Give every animal shelter within about 25 miles a picture of your dog. Also, put pictures on the supermarket corkboards and on lightpoles near schools and stuff; heavy traffic areas.

In parts of Michigan, and this is true, dogs have been taken by local migrants to be eaten. Creepy huh?

if your dog was a house dog, then you're screwed. I had a pet run away and it probably starved to death. It couldn't even find the dog food bag in the corner of the kitchen.

Our dog has a GPS chip planted in him so we can track it even if it gets lost.

It's seriously the best idea ever.

yeah, go to the local dog pound. Could of been picked up. Make some "Lost Dog" posters and put them up around where you live. Include a picture. How long has the dog been missing? How did it get out ?

Another thing you can do is get your dog chipped. It's different than GPS. They put a small microchip in the dog's back that can be read by a scanner at shelters, pet stores, etc. It will show them who the owner is as well as a number they can be reached at.

You would also need the GPS to go with that. The above option alone would be useless, considering the dog might not be found at a place with one of those scanners.

My dog has gotten loose a few times, but she is more of an outside dog, so she knows how to get home. I'd hate for her to run away, and me being unable to find her. I would do as others have said, and make posters and post them in various places.

Good luck Macar, I'm sure someone will find your dog and return her/him.

I've got some great news. We were up until about 1:30 AM last night hoping she would show up at the door, but finally decided to go to bed. At about 3:00 AM, we heard scratching on the door and it turned out to be her.

I'm glad she's back home and safe. I can't imagine what it would have been like if we couldn't find her.
