Re: Another wacko shooting...
Maybe, maybe not...
but when things like what happened at Virgina Tech occur, should they just not comment on it at all? Nuts are nuts no matter what.
Just like showing shows about serial killers etc...how come no out cry about that. People have been killing since time and will continue too. I don't think showing video footage of a crazed man is going to sway the matter much.Comment

It's not a maybe, maybe not, media is a huge influence. Not to mention the "news" isn't really the news its more like the "anything that = ratings".Maybe, maybe not...

Re: Another wacko shooting...
There is a difference between reporting and over reporting. Most of these news channels are doing it for ratings and that's when people get upset.Comment

Re: Another wacko shooting...
Like TJ said in the V-Tech thread....
They are going to act this way, rather they see it in the media or not. What about all the crazies way back when?Does that serve as a motivational factor for some of these psychopaths? Sure. But I think if you have it in you to do something like this, you're going to do it whether you see a movie or not.Comment

Re: Another wacko shooting...
So..if I'm sitting there and watching the news and I see the report that this is the worse mass killing in American history...doesn't matter to me if I see it once or twenty times, I already know. I haven't watched the news once since this happened. I heard about it on the radio the day of it and what was said a few days after.
As for ratings, yeah that's bad...but it's been like that since I can remember. I don't think it has that much of a impact on some HS student who is thinking about shooting up the school or who has been picked on his whole life. One time is enough...If I hang out with someone who gets drunk and they end up being the biggest *** I've ever seen...I don't need to see it over and over to know, hey that's how they act when their drunk.Comment

Re: Another wacko shooting...
If you think the coverage of the VT massacre or the killer himself hasn't already had an influence, you're kidding yourself.
Why is it that suddenly we're getting all these bomb threats and school threats??? Hmmm, it's not a coincedence.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: Another wacko shooting...
Yes but for some crazies all the media coerage could be that extra push they needed to actually commit such an insane crime.-JoshComment

Re: Another wacko shooting...
I didn't say this was the sole reason as to why this happened but what do you think about all the threats and what not the days following the shooting?Comment

Re: Another wacko shooting...
Good point, it could be the extra little push they need. But I don't think the media should be blamed for all of it.
I mean, most people our age get a lot of information from websites. If they want info, their going to find it.Comment

Re: Another wacko shooting...
Just don't dwell on it quite a simple concept really but from a ratings stand point that wouldn't make sense for the "news". See Anna Nichole Smith as over reporting lol that lasted forever why you may ask? Becasue of ratings. Just as someone else stated there is a difference between reporting and over reporting.-JoshComment
