I wanted to be an FBI Agent for the longest time.
Looks like I'm going to end up being a garbage man though, with the grades I'm getting this semester in college.

Re: What did you want to be when you grew up?
Well when I was really little, I wanted to be in the NFL, but I quickly realized that wasn't happening, so when I got to middle school, I went back and forth between wanting to be an architect and a sports journalist.Comment

I remember when I was little, I wanted to be a bus driver for Greyhound. I would take the bus from NY back to North Carolina with my mother when my dad couldn't get time from work. I thought those Greyhoud dudes were the coolest cats. I would even pester my mother to sit up front so I could watch them drive, LOL.Comment

Why settle for an architect, when you could be a city planner?Comment

Re: What did you want to be when you grew up?
Yeah, same here. I felt like an idiot when I did it too, but now I feel better about it.
Up until like 5 years ago I wanted to be an orthodontist, mainly because one of my great uncles is one, and he has a huge house with a Porsche. Now not only do I not want to be one anymore, but I don't have the grades necessary to get into a good school.Comment

Re: What did you want to be when you grew up?
I remember back in like '78... '79... telling my folks, "When I grow up I want to be the Senior Staff Writer on the #1 Sports Gaming site on the internet." They'd pat me on the head, turn the volume up on the Boston 8-track so I couldn't hear them talking in the front seat of our pea green Dodge Duster and say "what the **** is the internet!??!!? I told you that boy isn't right. And you thought cutting back to 2 packs a day while you were pregnant would help!?!?"
Actually, besides the proverbial "professional baseball player" think that 99% of the boys of my generation went through, I actually figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up in 6th grade. In the same year I met a local radio DJ at my school's career day and made that decision that day that that was what I wanted to do. In that same year, I won the state's "Young Authors" competition and thought I'd also like to be a writer.
Fast forward 22 years and, while I'm not paying my mortgage with either anymore, I'm very satisfied that I spent 5 years in the radio industry. I feel very accomplished that I did what I said I would do. Circumstances forced me to leave the business, but I'll never have that "what might have been."
The writing part... well... between OS and a couple other places that have run my work, I feel fortunate to have at least a small creative outlet. I write something for someone (or just for me) just about every day of my life. So, while it doesn't pay the bills, I am doing something that I wanted to do when I grew up.Listen to The Remodeling Clay Podcast!
