Anyone take the AP Calc test yesterday? My students were saying the free response section was a tad nasty in spots. Not quite what we had prepared for.
A lot of the kids in my class that took it yesterday said it was pretty tough. When you find out what the questions were get them to me and I can see if it is what we had gone over. Keep in mind with my response to them that I got a 5 on it two years ago, so they are probably a lot harder to the average kid in my class.

We went over the past 6 years of free response questions, and the students said there were a bunch of things that we didn't cover. There was the typical area/volume question, but no slope field or sep. diff. eq. There were rate problems (given rate in and out) and some table questions, but from what it sounds like, it was stuff we've gone over, but with a new twist/curve added.

My kids have traditionally done well; 104/116 have passed over the past 6 years (66/68 over past 3) with 13 out of 15 getting 4s or 5s last year. However, the College Board is consistantly looking for new wrinkles to throw in that the kids were caught off guard.

I may get the FR questions tomorrow, but I'll have them Monday at the latest. I'll work on a key and let you know.

I basically read the whole entire "five steps to a five" book on AP US today. I'm hoping to get a 4.

Good luck man, its a pretty easy test compared to other APs I've taken. Just lots of memorization of dates and people.

I got a five on it and didn't even take AP US History. I was in a similar IB class (Just went up to WW2 though) and wanted a day out of school.

Yeah only reason Im taking Human Geo is because its the first AP class offered at my school. The only AP class sophomores could take, plus it gives my GPA a boost, not that I really needed one.

I took the 2001 AP exam as a practice in school and scored a 5 pretty easily.

ha I think I failed the US test. Lets just say I read one of the questions too quickly and wrote half of one of the frqs on Roosevelt's New Deal. Unfortunately, the question was about TEDDY Roosevelt's economic reforms and not FDR's.

I, too teach AP Calc and my students were a bit despondent over the FRQ. The AP Calc listserve at the College Board site reveals that many teachers across the country felt their kids had the same reaction. I imagine the cut scores for 5's and 4's and so on will be lower. Maybe a low 5 might be 60-65?

Also, it's interesting that the overseas teachers who gave Form B thought Form A was much easier whereas the teachers here in the continental US think Form B was much easier.

can I see the questions for AP Calc from one of you teachers? I havent been in school for a while so can't get them from my teacher. Just want to know what I would have done.

Took AP Physics C yesterday (really easy for me) and have human geo (joke class) on Friday

You can access FRQ questions from the past several years exams on the collegeboard site.

I believe the address is something like: www.apcentral.collegeboard.com

I just found out i for a 3 on the US test. I wrote one of the essays on FDR instead of Teddy Roosevelt and had absolutely no idea what I was writing on the DBQ and somehow still passed. I seriously have no idea how i managed to pass. The grading system must be really really generous.

The scores are pretty much divided up evenly (about 20% for each) as opposed to a bell style. A 3 means you did better than at least 40% of the people who sat for the test. I would guess at least 1/5 left large sections blank, another 10% put random stuff down, and then the last ten percent are just downright dumb. That goes for all AP tests.
