skyline and gold star chili .... i too lived in hamilton (a nice suburb). cincy a great town if you stick to the outskirts. perhaps even kentucky if you do some research and find the cost of living is lower there (taxes, etc).
heck, even come a few miles into indiana (i live about 50 minutes away in indiana now) and you find some great places to live.Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. Just like everybody else.

What is the weather like in Cincinnati during the fall and winter months? Is it ever like 5 degrees with a 30 MPH wind chill?Comment

it can, but its pretty rare .. the coldest winters usually get are in the low teens at night for a couple of weeks. however we usually have at least one or two days every winter where we get 5 or more inches of snow. its the summers that get you here, although probably not as bad as atlanta's summers.Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. I can speak about Cincy. I've lived here since 2004.
I've actually been pleasantly surprised about how much there is to do here. Obviously, its a smaller town than Atlanta, but still plenty to do. Tons of festivals, concerts, and other events around town.
Big things that go on every year here: Labor Day Fireworks are really fun, its downtown on the river, good social scene, but a bit crowded. Octoberfest (in September, though, LOL) is the biggest in the midwest. Taste of Cincinnati every memorial day, where restaurants set up stands downtown and you sample the best food in town- its awesome. If music is your thing, I actually think Cincy is a hidden gem. Every year there the Midpoint Music Festival, which is now considered the SXSW of the midwest, I had a blast last year. There is also the annual Cincinnati Fringe Festival, which features a lot of off-beat bands, but is a lot of fun. I believe every three of four years, there is a music festival on the River called Tall Stacks, with a good lineup of shows and dozens of riverboats come downtown and you can go on cruises that have different themes (food sampling, music, gambling, etc.). Had a blast this year. Another cool thing is called Party in the Park, where every Wednesday night in the summer there is a free concert at a park on the river downtown with cheap beer =) There is also Kings Island which is a pretty good amusement park, and 2 fairly large water parks.
Its also a good sports market, considering Columbus, Lexington, Louisville, and Indianapolis are all within 1.5-2 hrs away. Obviously, Reds and Bengals are here. For college football, you're close to Ohio State and Louisville, and you can always see an SEC game if you like at Kentucky. Its also a GREAT college b-ball market- you've got fans of UC, Xavier, Kentucky, Ohio State, Louisville, Indiana, even a smattering of Dayton and Wright St. fans here. You're also close enough to be able to easily go to the Kentucky Derby and Indianapolis 500, if you're into that.
There are a few really trendy areas of town, with nice bars and restaurants, that are actually affordable to live in. Hyde Park, Oakley, Mt. Lookout, Mt. Adams are probably the best places for a young person to live in the area, although Mt. Adams can be really pricey (but you can routinely find Bronson Arroyo hanging out in the bars there). There are decent shopping malls, and like SlimKibbles mentioned, Newport-on-the-levee is a fun place to go, with shopping, a movie theatre, bars and restaurants.
I think one of the major differences in a place like Atlanta and Cincy is that you have to do more searching for fun things to do in a smaller city, it may not fall in your lap as easily as a larger city. The sad thing is so many young people here think its boring, when most of them don't even know what kind of things there are offered, all they think there is are sports and movies, LOL. Honestly, you can be happy either place you go, but most of it is going to be determined by the friends you make wherever you live.
The ATL, not so sure about. I have only stayed there for 3 weeks... and it was great while I was there... but I don't know if I could hang there for too much longer than the said 3 weeks. Nice place to visit and chill for a bit, but that's about it for me.Twitter - WTF_OS

The one thing to sometimes watch out for in Cincy is the driving. People have no clue how to drive around here when it isn't dry and sunny out, in whatever season. The accidents that happen on days where it snows or rains even a little bit never cease to amaze me.MLB: Cincinnati Reds
NFL: Cincinnati Bengals
NCAA Hoops: Xavier Musketeers
NCAA Football: Miami Hurricanes
NHL: Calgary Flames

I'm gonna be straight up with you guys, I'm still leaning towards Atlanta at this point. Mainly because it is the safe choice, and also because of the people I would know around there.
I still haven't officially made up my mind yet, but you guys have convinced me that Cincinnati is a solid place to live. This isn't an easy decision but I think the weather is a pretty big factor. I am really tired of living in freezing weather in the winter, and even though Cincinnati isn't as cold as Boston, it's more similar than Atlanta is.Comment

How much are you going to make at GE?
I have to imagine it's a lot more expensive to live in Atlanta than Cincy.
The traffic in Atlanta is brutal.Comment

Sorry I have not replied yet, been busy lately.
Anyways, I would definitely recommend the move down south. Surprisingly, the cost of living is very reasonable. Gas prices are still in the $2.90 to $3.15 range, so you're not going to get completely raped.
As for the traffic, if you are living and working in Marietta, you are not going to have a problem with it. As long as you are outside the perimeter (285), you will not have any problems getting from point A to point B during the morning or evening.
I wish I could give a more detailed reply at this point, but we've got some plans for tonight that are forbidding me from going in-depth. If you have any specific questions, please, feel free to ask.Comment

Yikes, I'll be sure to lube up. Sorry about the Brad line, won't happen again Brandon.
Seriously though, what would be a good city to live in for 6 months? Is Marietta a decent enough town to live in? I know it is outside the perimeter belt, but is that somewhere I want to go from a "having a life" perspective? What about Smyrna, Sandy Springs, or any of the neighboring towns?
Think I'll be able to find a pad with a 6 month lease?Comment
