      Re: Jury Duty Help!

Just got back from day one of two.

I have to admit...if you get a good case, like I did, it's interesting. Really is.

It just sucks the case didn't wrap up in one day.

I was summoned for jury duty last semester but told them that it would cause an undue hardship to miss classes and they were really understanding. I am sure they have had this occur before and you will be fine.
        Awww now I'm hurt.

Show up the first day and say:

"I'm here to do my job and convict on all charges and seek the death penalty if we can"

Ha! A few years ago, while at Jury Duty....I heard people waiting with me talk about using this and some other excuses heard here in the thread...." I've been the victim of a crime"..."I'm a racist"..... " I don't think people should be jailed"...."All cops are on the take"...and so on and so on.....
I took a seat somewhre in the middle and settled in on what should be an interesting first few contestants.....

Smart guy #1 :"Judge, I think that people who get arrested are probably guilty...I mean why else would the police arrest them?" I don't think I could be objective."
Judge: "Sir, I don't think you can properly serve on a jury in my courtroom"
(The guy is practically ready to run from the courtroom...grin ear to ear...) "That is why I'm going to send you down to the CIVIL court to serve on a jury there"
The guy looked like he just got hit in the balls with a baseball bat. I gave him a little wink with the OK sign on the way out. I think he's still lookin' for me.

                        Next person up....
Judge : "Is there any reason you don't feel you could sit on a jury in my courtroom"
Second person:. " No, your honor".

Then the medical and language barrier excuses start comin' out....
                        Pretty funny.
                        I love Jury Duty...

                          Re: Jury Duty Help!

I went my first time and haven't had to go the last two times I received the little cards in the mail.

The time I went was the most boring day in my life. Sitting in that courtroom JUST TO GET INTERVIEWED. The most interesting part was when I was called into the room and those lawyers talked to me like I was the damn defendant! Acting like I was some simp that didn't know what 1 + 1 is. *** clowns.

Oh and never just NOT show up.

That depends on the state, if you no show in Massachusetts you get a very stern letter saying show up on the specified date or a warrant will be issued. I've been lucky to survive Jury Duty, but I have in February at the Juvenile Court. That being said I can't imagine they'd want someone with a JD and a focus in Juvenile Representation on a jury, I am hoping I know the judge and can get out that way.
