    Re: Anyone from Charlotte?

I'd suggest Matthews or Monroe. Highway 74 is BOOMING out there, great shopping, eating, etc.

I used to go to Charlotte every month for business and always stayed in Matthews. Some hot young ladies too if you are single.

      Re: Anyone from Charlotte?

First let me say thanks to everyone for their input.

I've gotten 3 apartments here that I've called and from what I hear they sound pretty good. One is in Northern Charlotte and two are in Southern Charlotte.

Here they are, the Northern one is first. As a reminder I'm getting a 2-bedroom apartment.

      Waterford Hills
      York Ridge
      Dominion Crossing

      Still open to more suggestions.

York Ridge is almost South Carolina, way out by Carowinds. I think the second one looks really nice. Its about three miles down Park Rd. from where I live and theres a lot of stuff out that way, plus you're not far from South Park mall and everything around there.

What about the area around UNCC? If I decide to go back to get my MBA, I'm going to try and go there.

Quite honestly, all parts of Charlotte has it's bad parts. Nations Ford in South Charlotte is the worst in the city.....bunch of gangs especially latin gangs. Hidden Valley in northern Charlotte is pretty bad too and almost all of West Charlotte isn't very nice. So everywhere you go it's going to be some bad parts but there's enough development that it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I personally don't want to live in a place with college kids. This may sound funny because I'm 22 and just graduated, but I just want a nice, quiet place to live. I already have friends at UNCC and will go visit and party. BUT, I don't want to live amongst them. Four years of that is enough. The cost of living is pretty cheap near UNCC, however.

You say the second one, but York Ridge is the second one I listed. I think you're talking about Dominion Crossing. And yes, that one seems really nice. I'm excited to visit it this weekend. York Ridge is only 10 miles away from Dominion Crossing, so it's not too far out of the way. By the way, York Ridge is in the highest demand as they only have one available unit, and the date for that is August 11th.

What I'm really looking for is an apartment complex that doesn't offer really cheap housing. There was a lot of that in East Charlotte and it looks appealing from the internet view. I do understand that crime is going to be there, no matter what apartment I choose. It's a part of life. Heck, at the house I just lived at we had our house broken into and my car was also broken into. So I've already been through that stuff. I just want to take some precautionary measures to try and put myself in the best living situation. Basically, I just want to live among "regular" people. By that I mean not drug dealers and households that contain 11 people.

York Ridge is in my neck of the woods, and it's still pretty far from Carowinds and the SC border (probably a good 10 minute drive).

If I were you and York Ridge looks interesting to you, I'd go for it. There's a huge shopping center across the street from it that has a Super Wal-Mart, movie theatres, stuff like that. Next door, you have a few other shopping centers with a Game Stop, a Wild Wing Cafe (THE BEST wings!), and a few other restaurants and shops. Plus, it's right near I-485, which you'll be using frequently to get to other parts of town.

If it were me, York Ridge would be on my radar for sure.

                      Re: Anyone from Charlotte?

I can't help but laugh at the idea of recommending Ballyntine to someone who said they are looking to spend around 750.00 a month.

Nothing wrong with region 4! Just stay away from Kannapolis. I'm in Concord. Everytime my 3 year old flushes the toilet, and he asks me where it goes, I say, "It goes down to Kannapolis."

Seriously though, if you want a place to settle down and have some peace and quiet, I'd reccomend Harrisburg. Because of the Speedway, Harrisburg has really taken off and offers some nice living for reasonable prices.

Here's my issue with the South Charlotte/Southpark area. People there are a dime a dozen. I enjoy visiting there, but wouldn't want to live right in that area. It's just too stuffy, and in my opinion, doesn't represent the true South. Now, I'm from Rhode Island, and I've been down here for 11 years, so I in no way represent what it is to be Southern, but if you end up in the right place, the South's culture is really great. I just think you'll find South Charlotte to be more of a group of people trying to project wealth than hospitality.

Check out Harrisburg and some areas of North Charlotte. I think in the long run, you'd appreciate it more.

the only problem with Harrisburg is that the ghetto will flow out there eventually.

York Ridge is my #1 choice. I just wish they had a unit available earlier because I'm eager to get down there. The Super Wal-Mart sounds really good to me because that is my favorite store. Man I'm excited to go down there Saturday.

                          Thanks for the input guys.

The people around tryon and on Harris near the plaza will eventually work its way up around the University and then out towards the speedway.
