I am in the market to buy new basketball shoes, but I'm really concerned about the sweatshop practices of the bball shoe companies such as Nike, Adidas, etc.
Does anyone have any current information on sweatshop practices of these companies and how do you guys deal with this issue? Do you take any action or do you just buy without really thinking about it?Tags: None -

I typically buy without worry, but I've finally found my "perfect" utility athletic shoes...Adidas Superstars. I know they are trendy, but for $40 I get a good deal even if I replace them often, and I don't feel like I'm exploiting little Malaysian children to a great extent.
The last thing I could find about Adidas was from 2000. Well what most don't know is that for most of those people you either work for Nike or you work in the mines or other even worse labor. As hard as it may be to believe, in those countries Nike is the lesser evil.Comment

I buy whatever shoes I need - sweatshops are of no concern to me. Because of those shops, those people have halfway decent jobs and can feed themselves and their family... So I don't see the big deal that people make about them.
It's like people complaining about illegal immigrants... Do you want to work in fields all day under the burning sun day in and day out for years on end? I certainly don't...Comment

I like white shoes. I've had my same pair of K-Swiss shoes for about two years. They are a little dirty, but I think they still look good.
And like someone said. If you don't buy the sweatshop shoes, those kids just did all that work for nothing.Comment
