Fly, what city are you in?
Here in the L.B., you aren't going to find any apartment for less than $800 a month. That 800 will get you a one or two bedroom apartment either close to or in the heart of the ghetto.Comment

Re: Been going to the US a lot lately...
I have a 820+ (Not sure exactly) sq ft apartment with washer/dryer, dish washer, central air etc. , and I only pay $435 a month. I guess it is a perk living in one of the worst states in the USNCAA Vets League: Arkansas Razorbacks (9-2, 6-1)

The US is sooo vast; Canada is too, but its not as populated, and only the South is, anyways.
But ya, Im a history lover and would just love to know why you guys live where you do. I mean, is Alabama really does suck, why did people move there in the first place? And why are there people still there? Like, what does it offer?
Same for the other states and sections of the statesPSN: Peji911Comment

1) Their job requires them to live in said state.
2) They want to live near their family.
3) They want to live in a certain area with a certain weather pattern. This usually pertains to the retired people, who want to live somewhere where it's warm year round.

I've always been a Northeast person, and couldn't see myself living anywhere else. I would love to live in either New York(I do live here), Massachusetts, or Connecticut when I finally move out of my parents house.
If not a Northeast state, I'd have to choose California. I do not like the state of California, but I would like to live on an ocean front property there. It would be awesome to be able to surf when I wake up in the morning, in the month of January. I know there is someone on this forum who does that. I also have family in San Diego, and it would be great to live near them. Probably my favorite family members from my mom's side of the family.
Edit: My god, I can't believe I left out a state. I would absolutely love to live in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It would be awesome to be able to live in the city of my favorite college/team.Last edited by Double Eights; 06-24-2007, 09:47 PM.Comment

Well my parents lived in Texas and Oklahoma for the first few years of their marriage. Then moved back home to Alabama when my mom got pregnant with my older sister. My parents hated Oklahoma and didn't like Texas as much as Alabama.
The best thing about Alabama is the beaches. From the western end of Alabama's beaches down the Florida gulf coast line is the best beaches in the country IMO. And I always found it funny how northerners make fun of Alabama and then when it gets hot, they drive down to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for their vacations. If someone were to move to Alabama, I'd suggest the following cities..
-Hoover/Mountain Brook/Vestavia Hills
-Foley
-Orange Beach
-and of course..Tuscaloosa(the North River area)Twitter

Where's the Midwest love?
I live in Iowa, and like those from the deep South, our land prices are low, too. Like many have said you can get a house for well under 1/3rd the price you'd pay for it in Cali. There are many job opportunities, especially in rapidly-growing suburbs surrounding the pretty major urban areas (Omaha, Des Moines, Madison, etc.)
If you're looking at Iowa, I definitely recommend you take a look at the West Des Moines area (Urbandale, Waukee, Ankeny) or the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids corridor (North Liberty is the fastest growing city in the state - GREAT place for a family).
The worst part is the weather. If you like extreme temperatures - on both sides of the spectrum - you'd love it here. IMO, the Midwest is the best place to raise a family in the country. A high emphasis is placed on education, which is something you should appreciate as a teacher.Comment

Not to mention unless there's a hurricane, there's no surf at any of those beaches.Comment

The Alabama beaches are actually really nice. I don't know if they are the best on the East Coast though.NCAA Vets League: Arkansas Razorbacks (9-2, 6-1)

Re: Been going to the US a lot lately...
It probably would be cheaper. We stayed in Fort Morgan the first week of June and it was $2900 for the place for 7 days. I think the range is $2000 for the cheaper ones and then up to $5000 for the nicest houses.Twitter
