Re: The best things about where you live...
It was the first thing I bought when my wife and I bought our first house.
It's basically a frat party here a lot of Sundays. Or Saturdays depending on USC's opponent.
My wife hates football season.Comment

- Weather (when I'm not out in the sun).
- Quiet neighborhood. I don't see that many kids running outside. When they are they're supervised by adults.
- Nearby freeway that's connected to the two main freeways here in San Diego.
- Beach isn't too far.Comment

Re: The best things about where you live...
- Might as well be considered the geographical oddity described in O Brother Where Art Thou. Instead of two weeks from everywhere, it's a little under, over, or about two hours from everywhere. Tallahassee, Orlando, Tampa, Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, etc.
- Being in Florida, there are naturally a lot of snowbirds (people who partially reside here), and thus, a lot of people from different areas.
- The weather ranges from okay to friggin' sweet. The best time of the year is from October to March. The worst is the rain/hurricane season, when the daily showers are in full swing. It cools things off, but a 1/2 day of sometimes pouring, sporadic rain? Eh. It can and has dipped around the freezing point here, FYI.
- An emerging area. It's always nice to be on the cusp of major development in an area. A lot of new stores, developments, etc. are being built. So, in this tweener moment in Ocala's history, you can enjoy the best of both worlds. The old hat feel, and the amenities of the coming development.
- A lot of pissed off South Florida residents are springing up around here, and most support the Canes. So..emerging support for the "right" team & program.
- Florida law has a lot of wacky laws and omissions in state law. Which can be both a good and bad thing. Some are so outdated, it's hilarious. Even some currently proposed laws are old hat, such as a no fault insurance revision.

Re: The best things about where you live...
Cedar Rapids, Iowa
-Proximity to major cities. Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Omaha, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Chicago are all (roughly) the same distance from here. It's not a short trip by any means, but it's very doable in a car.
-Size. At 150,000 or so, it's large enough to provide enough entertainment, but small enough to maintain somewhat of a community feel.
-The U. Iowa football and basketball games are a mere 20 minutes away - but we don't have to deal with the drunken college students who were all too dumb to get into ISU after the game.
-Family. If you want to raise a family and do it right, this is the place. One of the best educational systems in the country, wonderful parks, family-friendly entertainment everywhere. Great jobs available at places like Aegon or Rockwell Collins.
-Sports. No huge teams, but we have minor league baseball, semi-pro hockey, and some excellent high school athletics to boot. Just enough for a city our size.
-Weather. We're not called the "City of Five Seasons" for nothing. Spring, early "It's getting hot" summer, mid-late "It's freaking hot" summer, autumn, and bitterly cold winters. I love it.Comment
