Sophomore year at UT. "Overslept" for my first class and watched everything unfold. Went to 2 more classes in a daze the entire time, had a paper due in my Psychology class. You couldn't walk through the UC (university center) because of everybody just standing around watching the tv's in a daze. I can recount everything about that day and I'm sure I always will. It's also my mother's birthday. We went to Outback Steakhouse to eat that night and I remember just staring at the TV the entire time. Hard to believe it's been 6 years.

I was just talking to my mom about this.

Not only is it, arguably, the worst thing to ever happen on US soil...but you know with the sick world we live in today someone will do something, sooner or later, on this day once again. It's a horrible thought, but it is what happens in the world.

I'll never forget this day, though. I was in 8th grade, our school refused to tell us what happened...all they said was "There has been a national tragedy." Teachers wouldn't tell us, we were kept completely in the dark. I walk in and go downstairs and see my mom, both sisters, and my sister's friend sitting downstairs and I saw the footage for the first time...that memory is burned into my head for good.

Similar situation to mine, except my 8th grade teachers didn't know what happened. There were no TVs in my middle school and it was a half day...near the end of the day, around 11:30ish or so, the principal came on over the PA system to offer condolences and tell us he hopes we all keep in our thoughts the memories of the people who "died in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania". A couple of us asked our teacher what happened, and she said she didn't have the details, but there had been some kind of explosion at the World Trade Center like a bomb.

The thing is...I didn't even know what the "World Trade Center" was. I had always known it as the Twin Towers. Looking back, I feel like ****, I leaned over to a friend of mine and said, "Looks like Saddam Hussein finally got us".

I walked home, walked through my front door and saw my dad sitting on the edge of the couch watching TV. I immediately knew things were awful - he never sits on the couch, he always sits on his recliner.

And the rest is history.

6 years on and Iraq is in a massive mess...despite having nothing to do with it...

While Osama is still sitting around somewhere smiling.

I find all that very wrong.

RIP to those who died.

I never thought I'd see a bigger and sadder event than September 11...and then the Tsuami hit south east asia and 500 000 more people died.

There's been some terrible things happen the past seven years. London, the mess in the middle east...the tsunami...sad times.

Not only is it, arguably, the worst thing to ever happen on US soil...but you know with the sick world we live in today someone will do something, sooner or later, on this day once again. It's a horrible thought, but it is what happens in the world.

Ironically enough, September 11 will always be one of the safest days as secuirty WORLDWIDE goes up to massive levels.

Other days...are as vulnerable as always.

Same irony, using planes is safer than ever as security at Airports has been dramatically upgraded worldwide. I've flown to many places since that day and people are checked from head to toe everywhere they go.

Which, sadly, just means things like buses and subways will be the easy targets...as those people in London found out.

There were always threats of that in NY, especially with the subway system... There's no real protection in place to prevent someone from getting on a train and doing some damage. There was also a big threat of the bridges and tunnels around NYC being blown up. Can you imagine the situation if they had gone through with that, driving a truck loaded with explosives into the Holland or Lincoln Tunnels at the height of rush hour, and detonating it? Because of that, I always got a little nervous when I would take car service home from work, and the driver would go through the Midtown Tunnel. If I got one who would ask me what way I'd want to go, I'd always tell him to take the Williamsburg Bridge... It'd add another 10 minutes onto the drive, but heck, the firm was paying for it.

IMO all those Hollywood studios should stop making those action movies about terror over and over again. It's now the reality, nothing is imaginary anymore. I think the US has gone maturer because of Sept 11, and I wish the film industry would become maturer too.
