Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
My dumb female landlord.
Our smoke detector started going off today. We have high ceilings and no ladder.. so after it would constantly go on and off and then slowly dying... I came to the conclusion the battery is going bad.
We call to let her know and to bring a ladder or help us change the battery.
But instead she tells us that it's an "electric smoke detectors and there is no battery attached."
Seriously?
She then calls us back and says that after researching the internet she has concluded it does not have a battery.. wtf?
Then she says that if it does go off again to check the fuse box and we can turn off the fuse for it.
Can this chick be any dumber?
The ones with batteries are usually the cheap ones that aren't wired in (like what we have at home), and we have to do the batteries once a year or else in winter it's a cascade of dying smoke detector chirping in the middle of the night (failing batteries in cold end up dying more, so always happens at night)Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
When you send a work email asking for help, and try to be as detailed as possible, and get a reply that shows that the person didn't read through all the detail that you provided. I'm still new at my job and I'm trying to learn everything, but when you don't read my correspondence, what's the point? Also, it's not easy, as we're three hours apart. Unfortunately, this is a recurring issue, as no one seems to want to read my emails (and I communicate better through text than speech).
I know this pain, my boss is in Michigan so it's hard for us here in Pittsburgh to communicate at times.Comment

Some can be wired into the house so they don't have batteries (I believe)...

The best part? The part that got me really angry? Her response of:
Scott and I lived there for years and we never had any problems with that detector. We never even changed the battery, so I'm sure it's not the battery.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I agree, some can be wired. and I entertained her idea for about 5 seconds before it did the "low battery chirp". It then did the dead battery effect on the alarm, so I KNOW 100% that it is not wired, and it's the battery.

Well, because heat rise the ceiling really is the best place for them. Can be a pain though when you live in an older building with high ceiling. My apartment, for example, has ceiling probably about 10 feet high. Though I do have a ladder for when smoke detector batteries or ceiling light bulbs need changed, I have to have someone come do it for me because I can't hold my balance on a ladder.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
They can be electric and still have a battery. My alarm was doing the dying chirp sound but when I went to replace the battery I saw it was wired to the wall. I figured something else must be wrong with it and tried to vacuum any openings to suck out dust or any particles that might be clogging the sensor and triggering false chirps. They also have it positioned right outside the bathroom so I need to put a towel over it so the moisture doesn't set it off.
After the battery chirps started getting really bad and I couldn't figure out what was wrong, I unplugged the hardwire from the wall and it still chirped lol, that's when I noticed the hidden battery slotWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I had to buy some batteries today and I was shocked by how much batteries cost nowadays. A pack of AA's and a pack of D's were $30.Comment
