Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
All I know is the written word works better for some people including myself. I would rather exchange emails with a relative far away than talk on the phone for hours.
I've found talking is often rambling and you don't discuss many issues you plan to as you get sidetracked.
Make no mistake, I do like taking with folks sometimes on the phone or in person but the idea that communication via the written word is ineffective or lesser than the alternative is a false narrative in my opinion.
Besides simply not liking it I suspect a large majority of folks who do not like correspondence via email or other means other than face to face are simply not able to effectively communicate their thoughts in that manner. As a writer I always keep that in mind, or try to anyways...Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
For me, it just depends on the person themselves. Sometimes I'd rather talk to people over email, texts and stuff, but there's other times where I'd prefer to just talk to people face to face. Cause there's some people you just like talking to more and even if you go off-topic so often, you don't mind it. But then there's other people who you'd rather just send messages to because all you really want out of the conversation/correspondence is answers to some things.
I hate when roles are reversed though(talking in person to people you'd rather message. And having to message people you'd rather talk in person to)
Hours sounds abit extreme in this example, but even in this scenario when it's just relatives or something, I'd usually rather talk to them in person than through email(assuming they're a relative I want to talk to lol), cause you'd actually want to catch up and find out about what's going on in each others lives and stuff, something not as effective through phone or email.Last edited by Majingir; 01-08-2015, 12:47 PM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
This time of year grinds my gears.
It's bad enough that all of the holiday's are over with, so unless you have a vacation planned then there's just five depressing months of five full work days.
Then add to that it's the busiest time at work. Preparing everything for year end, creating new annual spreadsheets, packing away 2014 files, etc.
Just small stuff like having to add the year (for 2014 stuff) to dates in excel and our accounting software after not having to add it for the last 12 months becomes annoying as hell. I'll be glad when it's May.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Canada is worse off. It's freezing cold. Lots of snow.Gets dark early. And other than 1 day off(which only exists cause it was just randomly created several years ago), no vacation from January 2nd until easter.
But ya, overall this is depressing time of the year. Especially since September-December is a fairly fun time(September with labor day,and it's still warm. October with Canadian Thanksgiving and Halloween. November with American Thanksgiving. And then Christmas season). Sucks to go from an exciting Christmas season/vacation into such a dull/boring time of the year. Don't really look forward to that much during this time of the year until the time changes(meaning it gets darker later, and days start warming up)Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
MLK and President's Day aren't federal holidays......People work on those days.Well President's Day is, but some people still work on President's Day.Comment

Politicians, federal workers, and state workers. Oh, and banks. Some professional jobs may be off, but the vast majority of people are working those days.
If you're a VA state worker you will enjoy a nice long 4 day weekend from Jan 16 through Jan 19th to commemorate Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Martin Luther King Jr.
Before 2000 it was all one big holiday (Lee-Jackson-King day).

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Speaking of texting, you send a long well thought out text full of important info (work related, for example) to someone and they respond with ..... "K".

MLK and President's Day are the definition of Federal holidays. Banks and government institutions are the only ones who have it off across the board.Comment

That goes on the list along with people who just reply "Yes" or "No" to a 2 part question.Comment
