Some places sell quarters of watermelon. For both people who won't be eating a full one, and those who want to see inside.

Though the price is only like half a full watermelon for obvious reasons.

All very true, you never really know what you're gonna get with fruit. A few weeks ago I went 2 straight weeks where nearly all the red apples I bought weren't very good with the flesh being rather soft and not tasting good. Seems like with red apples, if the skin is shiny and very smooth they are more likely to have firm, crunchy flesh whereas if the skin is duller with a more waxy sort of feel the flesh is more likely to be soft.

But sometimes produce that you think may not be so good turns out to be really good. One year while staying at my aunt and uncle's cabin, they bought corn on the cob at Wal-Mart and it was something like 12 ears for $1 or $2 and we didn't think it was gonna be that good for that price, but it turned out to be really good corn.

        bruised bananas

there's nothing worse than waiting for your bananas to reach the desired ripeness, for me it's a nice speckled brown, then peel that sucker and it's covered in bruises

Apparently certain chains get diff quality. Premium stores get "Grade A" while the discount groceries get "whatever is left"(which could still contain the best quality if theres alot), even if both chains are owned by same company and order from same supplier.

It's why grapes and berries I get could cost $2, while people buying in premium stores (not organic kinds) pay $5 or something. Their quality MIGHT be better, but at times it really isnt. Or at very least, you just can't tell difference.

At least when it comes to produce. Theres 0 way a box of cereal at a premium store is any diff than a regular place despite being double the price

That's because they have to cut it. You charge half the price almost for convenience and the off chance a section or two isnt so good or just doesn't sell.

Somewhat similar to a pizza place selling individual slices. 6 individual slices cost more than a 6 slice pizza. 3 or 4 individual slices probably equals that cost

Yeah, I get it. Just seeing your two sentences laid out next to each other was funny to me because you'll never see that spelled out in an ad. "Get a quarter for the price of a half!"

Also, agreed on the difference between "grade A" and "the rest" of fruit. A lot of times the visual is the only difference between them. Once you peel it the cheaper fruit is just as good. Not always, but a decent amount of the time.

I've tried organic vs regular and I honestly cant tell the difference. I'm glad too because I dont wanna pay double the price anyways or feel like I have to pay more for better quality.

But that "buy quarter for half the price" stuff does apply to many items too. You just gotta use math. Its why at times you might see places tell you how many grams or whatever it might be per dollar.

Like a bottle of Coke or Pepsi. Would you pay $1 for a small bottle, or $2 for one that's more than double in size? Small would be for convenience/portability. But you could easily just buy the bigger one and pour it into those metal water bottles.

And don't get me started on the rip off that are vending machines. $1 for a mini bag of chips? You could just buy the box at a grocery store for like $5 and get 16 bags in the box.

I forget the exact ones, but some fruits/veggies are better organic vs others. Like bananas are stupid because they have the hard skin you remove, for instance.

I don't notice the differences and just buy whatever's cheaper personally. I'm just picky with our strawberries to make sure there's no mold already, but that's about it.

Separately, we've started doing the Fry's (Kroger local store) pick up groceries for 5 bucks extra. Do the order on the app and you just pick them up, saves us a ton of time on the weekends

I must reiterate my dislike of those Chevy TV commercials where the bearded pitch man and a group of total "non-actors" are gathered around various Chevy models in random locations making "authentic" (and 100% positive) comments about the vehicle. Like in the one I just saw, they are gathered around a truck at night in what looks to be an abandoned lot while making totally "authentic" comments about how roomy it is and how great the lighting is etc. Give me a break! Just drop the pretense about using actors and don't try to convince us these dopes just happen to be there and impartial toward your product.

Someone should mock Drive Time's borderline predatory lending.

They are the payday loan equivalent of car dealerships. I hated working for that company. "Listen, we know you have bad credit, but we are willing to work with you. Here's a 2006 Ford Taurus with 140k miles for $16,550.00. We'll go ahead and tack on a 23% interest rate since we're assuming a lot of risk."

*Customer signs willingly and goes home and tells their family.*
                            * Family tells them they got ripped off.*
*Customer all ready has awful credit so defaulting and letting this overpriced turd vehicle go back won't hurt anything. Doesn't make a payment and vehicle gets repossessed and returned to the dealership*

Manager: "Wow.. I'm so shocked that THEY DID US WRONG and didn't make their payments. Okay wash it up, vacuum it out, and we'll throw it back on the lot for $16,000 next time."

It's like they are shocked that someone decided not to pay that much for a vehicle because they literally couldn't be in a worse situation. I get that people shouldn't ruin their credit or put themselves in that position, but Drive Time is one of those companies that pretends to have people's best interest in mind, but they are completely ****ing people over. It's definitely an opportunity to rebuild your credit over time, but man it's shady. We used to get vehicles off the truck with a dead battery lol and they only traveled from Atlanta to Birmingham. We ALWAYS had 3-4 vehicles in the shop getting something repaired.

I went to the gas station by work to fill up and buy a pack of gum.

My debit card wouldn't work at the pump so I went inside and asked the lady at the register if she could swipe it at the register for $30 since it wouldn't work. She told me that we would just do it after I fill up. I told her that I was worried something was wrong with the card because it gave me some problems the day before at Wal Mart.

So she insists it's going to work and tells me to go on. I filled up for $38.00 and went back in to pay. Card doesn't work. She tried it three times and I told her it's not going to work I think something is wrong.

I told her I work close by, told her where, and offered to leave my license to go to the bank and come back. She refused. "Okay, I'm 35 minutes from home.. how would you have me do it?". She continued to refuse to let me go and finally I told her that I don't really have a choice... write my tag number, keep my license I don't care.. I'm going to the bank to get the $$ and coming back... besides the fact that she was the one who insisted that it would work. The lady even said she would call the cops if I left.. lol. I was preparing to just let that happen and then the night shift worker came in.

So they were turning over to the evening shift and the lady vouched for me and told me I could go and it would be fine. I went, got the money from the bank, and came back. I thanked the other lady for letting me go, but after I paid I told them I'm not coming back. I'll drive out of my way to go somewhere else next time.

I'm not writing a Yelp review about a gas station or anything, but what the ****? I probably spent $1500 in this place on gas last year just filling up every week for work.
