Cops and their quotas grind me up...
My wife walks out the house to find a ticket on our Sienna. We live in a townhouse so of course our vehicle is noticeable from the street.
So a cop on patrol or for whatever reason fills his quota by writing us a ticket for expired tags because in the state of VA you have to re-register every one or two yrs.
So does he drive through single family home neighborhoods and check vehicles in their driveway? Why do I get ****ted on because I live in a townhouse? I know that I was in the wrong, but the tags expired in July and I just had not had the time to get it done.
Why not set up a speed trap to catch speeders.... something which might actually save lives, instead write a ticket for a car parked in its rightful place with tags that expired by only ONE week.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Plumbing.
Have a leaky shower faucet. Buy tools to fix leak (cartridge wrench and washer), handle is pretty much fused to stem.
Buy stem puller, try stem puller, doesn't work. Take hacksaw to handle, handle removed. Buy replacement handle. Replace washer, put everything back.
Leak slowly comes back. Try to replace stem and seat, can't find stem and seat to buy. Buy tool to resurface seat, hoping it will work.
Go to remove handle, brass screw immediately strips.
Drill currently charging.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
The A/C at work. The inside unit part is in the ceiling above the hallway that houses the two bathrooms. Something is wrong and a few times a day, the system flushes and gallons of water comes down from the ceiling and even over on to the other side of the wall into our waiting room.
This happened a few months ago and someone came to fix it. I went to Home Depot and got some replacement ceiling tile and did some measuring and cutting. I ended up replacing about 12 titles total.
A repairman has been here three times and still can't fix it. My GM sent me an e-mail this morning wanting me to replace the tiles.
**** that.. I'm waiting until I know it's fixed for good. We have all been taking turns with a wet/dry vac and a mop every time it floods.Last edited by AUChase; 08-07-2013, 05:20 PM.Comment

Another one with left-turn arrows. Being behind a guy who slams on his breaks when it just turns yellow and makes you wait for the next green arrow. Come on, man!Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
We have quite a few traffic light cameras here. If you see it has been green awhile, you start slowing down because you don't get through it if you speed up. Nice thing is a lot of them have crosswalk timers so you can sometimes get a hint.Comment

You were the guy that was too lazy to do something you had an entire month to get done. Who cares if the cop has a quota that he has to fill by writing people who, you know, break the law? That is if you were actually breaking the law...
I actually looked up to see if VA had a grace period, which they don't. Then I saw this "The DMV does not provide any grace period, so once your plates expire, you can’t drive or park on state roads."
If you were parked in your driveway it doesn't seem as though he can write you a ticket. Which makes sense. If I have a '59 Chevy in my backyard I am restoring I don't think the state has any right to write me a ticket for the registration being out of date.

Guessing it's down to the timing of the lights and traffic, but after 2+ months of making that drive 5 days a week, I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've either made the light, or not had to wait through an entire green/red cycle for cross traffic.Comment

When I hear complaints of a "ticket quota". Could be the case with some departments but I have never witnessed it or heard it done in 10+ years in law enforcement.
Then again, it is usually an excuse for when people do get tickets

You are mad for the wrong reason.

I already admitted in OP that I was wrong to not have the plates re-registered..... but it's just kind of a dick move to go after my parked car in front of my house. I don't have a driveway. Where we park is not a public area per se, because it requires a parking pass but it's a not private driveway either.
So yea, wasn't really looking for sympathy, and definitely wasn't looking for a brief lecture. Just blowing off some steam in what I thought was the appropriate place to do so, seeing if anyone could relate, but I guess I came into the shame-me thread and VADMV education thread.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment
