This is why I shop at Nordstrom's, Les Schwab, and Costco regularly. Large companies who understand the value of customer service and go out of their way for their customers. Its also a huge reason they're so extremely successful.

I have no problem with Trev returning everything. It may be a bit over the top, but a $30 gift card on a bait & switch is chump change to Best Buy. They should have honored it, but Best Buy and Circuit City are notorious for sticking it to their customers. Costco gets all of my electronics purchases as I refuse to shop at BB or CC.

Plus, $30 is half of a video game (or in this case was going to be used to get a 2GB card for my new cameral).
So your issue is with Best Buy "screwing you" for $30 while you screw your company for what I am sure is MUCH more than $30.

If only irony paid the bills.

That was quite an effort on the OP's part. I would never dream of doing all of that, but it was an interesting post to read.

I don't know I guess I just see it as life, but I like Bestbuy to much not for the great customer service, but for the things they got. I have been screw by CC and Bestbuy and yet I still go back. Oh well.

Does anybody ever work at their job anymore?

Not me, I go to Nordstrom's to hear the professional pianist and the hot ladies in the make-up counter.

Except for the TV, everything else was still in packaging. So it was jut throwing it in the truck and driving 5 miles. Everything else was done from my computer at work. It was actually more pleasure than anything. There was a sense of gratification when explaining to the manager that I was returning almost $3K worth of stuff because of their poor customer service. (He tried to hit my with a 10% restocking fee on the stero equipment, but because they weren't opened, he couldn't). Which I then told, it was that kind of crap that is making me not want to shop there anymore. He didn't get it.

I understand the time wasn't worth the money, but f-it. I didn't care at that point. Sometimes, you go out of your way to make a point just because you feel like saying F-U in a different way.

I guess you can also flip that around and say that for only $30, they would have just said screw it and sent the card (which I was hoping would be the outcome), but instead, it cost them a few grand in sales and a lot more in future sales. Not a big $$$ amount to a large company, but oh well.

              Shunnnn the non-believer...shun......shuuuunnnnnnn.
gotcha....only the tv I can understand...still not sure I'd do it. I had my HDTV die 3 weeks after I got it, had to re-box it, take it in, get a new one, get the new one all set. Not something I'd want to do often, I'm glad my setup's all done.

Oh, Best Buy called and wanted me to tell you that your gift card is in Candy Mountain. Come on Trevvyyyyyyyyy.

Nah, I'm salary so I'm getting paid for the work I produce, not the amount of time I spend doing it. I get deadlines given to me for my work, I make those deadlines and everyone is happy. They don't care if I spend 8 hours working and get the job done or spend 6 hours working and 2 hours surfing and get the job done or spend 6 hours working and go home early. Unfortunately for me, I apperantly suffer from slight ADD and like to take breaks every now and then and harrass big box electronic retail chains in between actual work. Plus come December, January and February, I will be putting in my fair share of unpaid OT.

Now if I was an hourly employee, I'd agree with you.

I would have done the samething. Although I may have followed through more with Bestbuy and skipped the CSR and go straight to the corporate office. The fact that you closed your account probably hurt them a lot more than any of your purchases. If you didn't pay your bills, then they lost money, and if you actually paid your bill and had great credit, they probably lost 10+ customers.

I bet that if you sent it to the right address, you will get a response back. If the CSR was based in India, they will not bend any rules, if it says don't do it, they won't. There is no independent thinking there, I hate having to work with them everyday.
