That's the way it was for me as well. Still no problems with my teeth or gums or anything. I just decided that it wasn't worth it anymore considering all the possible problems that can arise (ie: cancer being the worst of course).

You've already taken the hardest step in this entire process. That was the day you decided to quit. It sounds like you've already had more trouble than I did with the shakes and all that, but it does get MUCH easier. Before you know it, you'll look at the calendar and say "Wow, it's been 1 year since I last chewed".

Yeah brother, we will get there. Like I said, I knew it would be hard, you can't chew a can a day for 13 years and then have it be easy to quit. Lets not fool each other, tobacco( nicotine) is a bitch of an addiction and should probably be more regulated than it is........but it was my choice and now I have to do what it takes to quit...

Now if my Irish can figure out a way to stop Navy from scoring on every single drive, that would help tremendously.

The first time I quit, I used the all herbal stuff for the first 2 weeks, then to nothing at all. Blue once you make it 21 days you normally have it beat. Avoiding the temptations after that mark are what gets to you. Of course now I should quit again(permanantly)so we can help each other out. I did it once and I can do it again.

Yeah just don't go to any Cubs games with your friend and I will have to avoid watching FSU play until we actually gain back some form of our 90's teams.

I figure if we both have cable taken out, we hid in closets for the next three to four weeks...we have a legit shot at this.

By the way, let me tell you how ND losing to Navy did not help my cause today.........."I picked a bad week to quit amphetamines".

I just stopped smoking a month ago after about 6 years. What I did was just be mentally prepared for it, and some how it worked. At first I would allow myself like 4 cigarettes a day, then eventually it became 1 a day, then 1 a week, and now none. And I think what hurts a lot of people is they say "oh man I'll never do it again", and they start to feel like a part of them is going away. I went in with the attitude of "I can still have a smoke every now and then" and it felt less restricted, not like something was being taken from me.

I quit dipping cold turkey after about 5-6 years of doing it. It was more of a recreational thing for me though, I never dipped by myself and rarely dipped when I wasn't drinking.

I quit smoking after 7 years. Come last year. It was tough to a degree. I did like the other guy above. I told my self, "ok only 2 cigs a day". After that I went to none BUT smoked when I drank. Then it got to the point I did not even want one. I am not much of a drinker so that helped. I am still smoking other stuff but gonna cut that out here in next couple of months. Gonna be having kids here next couple of years and don't think that should be in the house hold.

Hardest part I find is OTHER PEOPLE. Seeing people smoking made me want to so much worse. What really helped me out was the LOUISIANA CLEAN AIR ACT. They banned cigs in all places that server food. No more smoking sections. That helped alot, cause we would go out to eat and get drinks and smoke. Since it is illegal now it kept me from doing it.

When I was in college I only chewed when we played or practiced( even though NCAA prohibited it ) and when me and the boys played cards, video games, clubbing, or watched sports together. I never chewed at the club, or in class, or in one of the commons....just when hanging with the boys.

As time went on, it became a can a day habit: Can a day( 2.50 ) 30 cans a month( $75 ) over the course of a year( $900 ) over the course of 13 years( $11,700 ) to risk cancer...not the best choice.

update: a full week as of today: not one chew and the daily withdrawal symptoms have really started to subside. This morning, I woke up and felt great......the only side effect today is the throat is a little tender and the small headache.......

this week was a bitch...2 nights ago I woke up wide awake around 3am and my heart was racing and my left arm was numb and tingling, my throat felt like it was rubbed with sandpaper......it took me 2 hours to calm down and go back to sleep and I woke up fine.

This was a big test this weekend, with college football, the NBA started and of course the Pats/Colts game was on...these were prime chewing hours my friend...and not even a hint of buying a can to throw one in.

Yeah, if I hung out with guys that chewed, it would make it very difficult.....thank God I do not. The next true test is when i throw in COD4 this afternoon, the urge will be killer when playing this online with some friends....lol

I moved to Arizona in May and quit a couple months after that. You can't smoke indoors here, whereas in Michigan you can. This helped me out a ton, I didn't have to see people out at a restaurant or bar smoking, or sit near it. I couldn't smoke while drinking. Great help to keep yourself away from others. Also helps that you don't want to really be one of the "outcast" people always going to the outdoor smoking area at a bar.

Sounds like bluengold's turned the corner, I don't have stats in front of me, but I tend to think that if you survive the first week or so you've got a great shot at making it!

I dip (baseball, in college now) not looking to quit yet...

I do know though (I have stopped before) that if you can keep a bag of sunflower seeds with you, if you get the craving put some of those in your mouth. It's something that works with the oral part of dip.

                              Good luck
