I am in Portland and on a whim we stopped by the NIKE outlet store. We didn't even realize it was Black Friday until we went inside. It wasn't that crowded and everything was at least 30% off. Great deals, no line, plus cool to see. Fun day!

If I went out on Black Friday, I would be in jail now for murder.

          Re: Black Friday stories

I went to Best Buy first for my shopping. For the hell of it, I love the experience of waiting in lines like that to go shopping. No, I wasn't buying anything magnificently large or that warranted a ticket... but I also didn't want to wait until 10:00 in the morning for feasible lines and limited items while shopping.

That said, I got there around midnight, having had only about four hours of sleep the night before. I went to Best Buy with my friend last year and got there around 2:30, so this time I learned to get there a bit earlier. Best Buy is in a shopping center where, last year, there was a large restaurant on Best Buy's right side (looking at the front of the store from the outside) that extended its side, so it's like there was a corner of the two places.

          ¯¯|

(Best Buy is the horizontal line, the restaurant is the vertical line, and the parking lot/walkway makes up the area down and left of the corner).

I don't know why I wasted my time with that, because what I'm going to say next is the restaurant, along with every other store except Best Buy, have been knocked down, and the entire shopping center has been revamped with brand new stores, all in line with Best Buy. Therefore, we couldn't line up the same way anymore, so this time the line went around the building and into the back. One thing I like less than not having someone with me for five hours is being in the back of a building with nothing to even lean back against for five hours. Behind me in line was some strange dumpster like structure that had angles on the bottom that made it impossible to sit back against, etc. I like seeing the front; being with most of the people there, at least having a public view of the parking lot, highway, etc. In the back, it was cold and boring... hell, it was cold boring.

Finally at about 4:00, I decided to attempt and fall asleep on solid concrete, in nothing warm but a sweatshirt and jeans. About 5 minutes into my sleep, I was woken up with somebody moving forward, telling us that... well... we were moving forward. I shot up and saw everyone rushing. Apparently, one of the employees called for tickets HDTV tickets, and everybody rushed forward and crammed. So, my spot went from about #600 to about #1500. ****.

Long story short, during the course of the next hour was a poor line, people in the back cutting, crowds and bundles all pushed together, the employees pushing us against the wall, us not being able to form a single line (I don't know what made it so hard), and a bitch fight. During the fight, everyone looked their way as I motioned behind everyone's view toward the front (yeah, I know... but hell, the way I see it, I was cut too). I got in during the second wave of incomers into the place, only to see that everything I assumed would have a price cut actually had an even larger price than retail value. The only things I got out of Best Buy were an RCA antenna (which went up a dollar) and King Kong (which I couldn't find for about 20 minutes until I found it when in the snake line for the cash registers... there was only one left).

Then I went to Target, bought Batman Begins and The Notebook; went to Radio Shack to look for a cheaper antenna or a cheaper 360 VGA cable. No such luck there either. Then went to Circuit City, and realized that the store is much smaller than the other ones, so there was still a line out the door though it had already been open for 45 minutes. I contemplated which movies I wanted to buy for so long before I ended up only buying The Descent. I wanted to buy 2 Fast 2 Furious, but couldn't find the first one... so I said to myself I wasn't going to buy it without completing my series. To buy my movie there were about seven people in front of me... somehow, thirty minutes later, I was finally out the door. I don't know what happened; something with their bar code.

Then I went to Gamestop and looked at their deals. I was mostly looking for that VGA cable for cheaper than $40, but I noticed their DVD deal, and found Fracture, Casino Royale, and The Fast and the Furious. Now that I got the original movie, I had to return to Circuit City, but not before going to Fry's. Well, at Fry's, I found the VGA cable for $30, and got in line. Little did I know, that wasn't the end of the line. Went to another part and though I found it. Nope. Found another area, way in the back of the store. Well, no one was behind me. Then I heard a man clear his throat to the side of me. Apparently, they wanted the line to keep clear of the walkway. As soon as I found the end of the line, I was near the entrance of the store. The line was estimated to be about two hours long from that point, if not longer. I figured it wasn't worth saving $10 to wait two hours in a line when I was already feeling very tired, hungry, and still not fully healed from my concussion I suffered ten days back. So I returned to Circuit City, bought the VGA cable for $40 along with 2 Fast 2 Furious, and got home.

Wanted NBA 2K8 at Target for 28 bucks, but the Target line was around the building and I said, "FORGET IT!"

We had just gotten back from Kohls (awesome deals and the line went really fast) and after the Target line we weren't ready to wait on another line. So we shot over to Best Buy, I grabbed NBA 2K8 and hid it behind "What Dreams May Come" (it was the last copy of 2K8) and went home to sleep. I woke up again at 10, back to Best Buy with a target flyer in hand and they price matched me for the 28 bucks (I actually paid 60 and THEN went back with the flyer).

            STILL...got 2K8 for 28 bucks!
The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!

I worked Black Fridays in high school and college, but I am certainly glad I don't have to do that anymore. It seems to get worse year after year.

I went to Bestbuy around 7:30am. My son wanted "300" that was on sale for $6.99. While he waited in line to check out I looked around and picked up GUN for the 360 for $4.99. We were out by 8am. I had a $10 RZ coupon so I spent $2 on Black Friday.

this was actually a down year, with nothing really major except some savings on big electronics. There were no hot new clothes or tickle me elmo toys out this year. There was nothing different in price to push ps3's or 360's out doors, and most videogame deals sucked.
